This game works with: Basilisk II, Mini vMac

This is the CD-ROM version of Might and Magic: World of Xeen, which is Might and Magic IV and Might and Magic V combined, resulting in some extra quests that involve both sides of Xeen. The CD-ROM version also has a whole lot more digitized speech and a few other things they couldn't fit onto a million floppy disks.

As they solve mysteries and attempt to descover the unknown, players encounter more than 200 speaking characters throughout this fantasy/role-playing epic, including the mysterious Ellinger, who tells the secrets of salvation, and Sharla, Queen of Sprites, who is searching for her lost sister. Macintosh Multimedia & Product Registry Volume 9, No.4 - 1996

I have uploaded the updater to v. 1.2 but I have not tested it.

Hi,

I've managed to run this software on a real G4 PPC iBook Retro machine with Tiger 10.4.11 installed WITHOUT any emulation app. My optical slot-loading drive is long dead, so i've decided to give it a try to work with the CD image. The Virtual CD-DVD application included in the archive is useless - gives error with 'lack of resources'. Trash.
Take in mind, this method won't work on 10.5 or higher, due to lack of possibility to run classic environment software. It's meant for geeks using their retro macs nowadays.

- Install classic environment subsystem on your Tiger machine. I'm using OS9.2.
- Install Toast Titanium. I've installed 9.0, But any version should do the trick.
- Unpack files from archive.
- Rename *.ati extension to *.toast
- Select file and set it's parameter to Blocked - the image won't be recognized as a cd-rw type medium anymore.
- mount an image using Toast Titanium.
- To achieve minimum load-times, you can copy all files to a dedicated directory on the phisycal drive.
- Run the application file from hard disk or the mounted image itself.
- Voila! Enjoy!

I've finished the game before on the DOS PC, but the MAC CD version is superior IMO.

Thanks for the tip. I tried yesterday but it wasn't working. Today it seems to be working, though.

Trying to mount the World of Xeen.ati disk image via the included VirtualCD imager just pops up an error message saying "insufficient system resources to mount this image" despited having allocated 1GB RAM to the virtual Mac. (I am using Basilisk II, a 2010 Intel Mac and Lion).

Any ideas?

Thanks so much for this! I have the PC versions of Might and Magic 1-5 on CD, and I could NEVER get either 4 or 5 to work on any of the PCs that my friend has had over the years. This works perfectly on my G3. I can finally finish up the series! Yay!

Yeah you can copy all the files from the CD to the hard drive and it'll load the files from there instead, says so in the read me! They just require the CD to be in there for the disc check and if you don't have certain folders installed because of space or whatever.

Works great! Thanks. Would it be possible to copy all the data files to the HD to help the game run faster? Because When running from the CD, you have to wait for it to spin and it takes a few seconds to load up parts of the game.
