Emulation
Guides on emulating older games

RAVE 3D-accelerated version also available.

MechWarrior2_cuebin.zip contains the original CD data in cue/bin format, including music tracks. The best way to play MechWarrior 2 is to burn this to a CD-R.

mechwarrior2_31stcenturyc.sit contains only the data portion of the game CD in toast format. You can mount this image to play without a real CD, but you won't get any music.

MechWarrior2_v1.2_NetMech.sit contains the patch to v1.2 and the NetMech installer.

MechWarrior2_Volume_Fix.sit contains tweaked v1.2 binaries that do not adjust the system sound volume (normally MechWarrior 2 sets the volume to maximum). This is highly recommended for any Mac using built-in speakers, or external speakers lacking a volume knob, such as the Apple Pro Speakers.

Compatibility
Architecture: PPC

System 7.5.3 - Mac OS 9.2.2
Not compatible with OS X Classic Environment

My guess is rather OS9 - Mechwarrior is a rather "picky" game regarding the hardware if I recall correctly. I'd try it on System 7 machine if you've got one at hand and see if it changes. At least that was the kind of Mac it was intended (and tested) to run on.

@Ataru29 Wish I could try. It does sound like a GPU issue, or maybe even CPU model, but it being not updated enough for later Mac OS APIs is also not impossible. Does the game offer multiple rendering options, like OpenGL or ATI RAVE? Did you try different GPU models and brands?

Am I the only one to allways get slight stutter every 5 to 10 seconds? I've tested the game in various PPC machines, but always under OS 9: that may be the problem? Or is the my burned copy? Because I'm pretty sure I've burned it at more than x8...

By the way, the music works best with an internal SCSI CD-ROM. With IDE, there might be a slight pause each time the track begins.

Yes, this works fine in Mac OS 9.2.2 as long as it is natively booted (not OS X Classic Environment). Before installing, you may want to copy your Sound Manager extension somewhere else, as it will be overwritten with version 3.1 from 1995.
