Works great on Snow Leopard under Rosetta.

@MacTouch: Hi and thanks. Yes its the 5th DL Smile

Thanks for creating this patch. I presume it's the 5th DL, not the 4th ? Wink I hope that reddragon will see it, our last discussions dating from August 2016...

...i tried the no cd patch and it crashed my game with an error type 3.

@reddragon: I was able to run the patch OK. I also installed this on an eMac running Mac OS 9.2.2. But I found the install was not easy. (a) the (English) DL extracts as a .dmg file, so this needed conversion into an OS 9 friendly format. (b) The installer the game uses is a StuffIt Installer version 7.x - just the flakiest bug-ridden version of StuffIt ever, IMO. - Anyway, after several crashes and restarts I managed to get a full install OK and was able to patch the game.

I've archived the patched game and have added it as the 4th 5th DL above. It runs OK without asking for a CD on both OS 9.x and Tiger. This might be an easier install for someone.

Sorry. The utility linked in my post works for StarCraft. I mean that this game can be installed and launched normally after creating a disk image with it. Otherwise, not, but, it was only under SheepShaver. So, that's why i was thinking it should work on a standard Mac. It's so sad if your Mac doesn't let you playing this game. Perhaps, this game works only on a bootable os 9 Mac original or not. And I don't know if it works under Classic. I haven't tested it...

I have tried all the image ways, toast, virtual cd app, rip, clone, make, unmake....... none of which work. they still say the cd is not found or insufficient resources. I guess they don't like my MDD. If it doesn't work by burning it, then i guess i won't play the game.

Have you tried to create an image with this utility :

http://macintoshgarden.org/apps/virtual-dvd-romcd-utility

And if this not work, may be you have to burn a disc, no ?

I installed this on my MDD in OS 9, and it installs fine. But when i load the game, it says the original cd is not found. I locked the image then mounted it and tried that. No avail. i tried the no cd patch and it crashed my game with an error type 3.
Any other ideas on how to get this to run?

The minus link is indeed dead so I have deleted it. However, the Mega link is OK and works just fine for me.

The Link to mega.co.Nz is dead on max-payne.
The link to minus.com don't work. I tried download the game and it don't work.
You need to switch the game to first server.

If you mean the no-cd patch, we can't help. It's not really needed.

Trash the app, re-install, do not apply the no-cd patch and read all the posts from this thread from the bottom up.

I made a mini-image from the zipped toast file linked in the main post. It's only 64k and seems to satisfy the game's CD requirement (I just launched it and resumed an early save). Saves a load of space Smile

Just lock the iso and mount with Toast. Tested in 10.6.8. Should work in OS 9 too if you would prefer to not use the patch.

I also went one step further and no-cd patched the game in Sheepshaver with the old (Mac OS) patcher. Then used iPatch to make a OS X-compatible patch. I've added it to the main post.

lock the disc image and mount it with Toast. Then Play.

The site is about preserving old Mac software, running it under emulation is about as far as any of us want to get involved in this sort of thing. This is not a warez site. Every time someone asks for a hack or patch to make an un-runnable application run we'll bend over backwards to help. But, every time someone asks for an unofficial patch to circumvent their reluctance to either burn a physical CD or mount a locked disc image, every one of the sites main contributors cringe. Every time someone fulfills that request, we all give up a little more of that effort that makes up send our time and money in supporting the site and its library.

I bought this game, and I still don't need a no-cd patch t play it.

Double-Click the game icon.
Immediately hold down Option/Alt and D
You get a dialog box allowing you to set all the video options.
Mac Payne picture is on the top-left
Click it.

Thanks for your answer! The picture on the right in the main menu? If I do, nothing happens. Do you press & hold option (alt) + D before you start the game or after it started?

bertyboy's picture

I don't get the beep either. But you should get the dialog box with all the video options.

Did anyone actually get cheats to work with this game? The apple game website (http://www.apple.com/games/articles/2002/07/maxpayne/) says you need to press and hold option + D while startup. I've done so but no developer mode box nor "beep" comes up as mentioned.

That's a pity, because I am totally stuck at that Jack Lupino shootout scene and it's so incredibly hard. I've been spending over one hour now and there seems to be no way I can make it. Since my time is limited, I'd appreciate if anyone with experience in using cheats with Max Payne could give me a hint on how to activate them. Thanks Smile
