Emulation
Guides on emulating older games

Client for the extremely rare Quake I campaign Nehahra. Based on GLQuake.

Full Game Expansion, PPC Macintosh: MacNehahra 1.1b3 OpenGL + added game ".pak" files - archived as a StuffIt 5.5 ".sit" file.
MD5 checksum & filename: 4f5f3bda3789e67ee562a81a00af6925 *macnehahra-quake.sit

Once you have the .sit file downloaded and decompressed, place the contents of the folder "For-Quake-Folder" into your Quake game folder. That is, copy the application file "MacNehahra" and the folder "nehahra" into the same folder as your game of Quake or GLQuake. When in place double-click the MacNehahra application icon to launch. You should be ready to go.

Compatibility
Architecture: PPC (Carbonized)

Important:
A "full game of Quake" must be installed prior to playing MacNehahra and the Quake "id1" folder (+ its included files) present in the same folder as MacNehahra and the nehahra folder. - By "full game of Quake", this means; Not a Demo version of Quake.

The "id1" folder and its content from a full install of Quake are required (it makes no difference if the Mac Quake or GLQuake application files are present or not, to play the MacNehahra Expansion for Quake).

Note: You can also play MacNehahra on a Mac that has the Quake id1 folder (and its contents) copied from the PC version of Quake, to your Mac.

Minimum Requirements on the Mac side:

The Video Card requirement negates this working on an emulator. MacNehahra runs well on a G4 PPC, it probably runs OK on a G3 PPC too, if that G3 meets the minimum requirements.

TIP: You can force mouse looking by adding "+mlook" to your autoexec.cfg file inside your nehahra folder. You can also force the standard quake game to use nehahra's crosshair by adding "crosshair 1" to the autoexec.cfg file in your id1 folder. If you don't have an autoexec.cfg file inside either of these locations then create a plain text file & rename it autoexec.cfg.

You could also force mouse looking by binding the Mouse Look key to CapsLock, though I think the above method is a bit more elegant.

@MCP: If what you mean by "stupid cinematics" is what I call the game intro, then yes I agree it is really over L-O-N-G Sad But it does end, eventually and it begins the game proper after that. Best avoided if you can help it. Which is why I left my saved game in (it begins just after the long "stupid cinematics" intro). I haven't seen it return since Smile

The SHIFT key trick is good to know tho'.

Glad to hear that its working for you, too.

Thanks MikeTomTom! I'll let you know how it goes...

UPDATE: Your version is slightly different than the one I have; offhand I'm not sure which one is later. It also messes up on my system, endlessly playing those stupid cinematics and never letting you actually play the game. But a solution finally occurred to me. When the game first starts up, or if you hold down SHIFT when starting the game, an options menu comes up and you can opt to never play the cinematics in the first place. And when I do that, the game actually works. Also, your game save works, though I don't know if the game would run into problems later with cinematics. Thanks again, MikeTomTom!

"Well MCP, I don't think it runs with GlQuake"

I was talking about the MacNehahra application, together with a full install of Quake. Shock If you scroll down the sourcefourge page, there's the last MacNehahra build at the bottom.

Anyway I have all the right stuff installed on my WallStreet, but sometimes when system requirements are listed as 8.6, programs really mean OS 9. And sometimes they just don't quite get along with PowerBooks. I'll eventually try it on my G3 iMac with 9.2.2, see if it works there.

@MCP: The game works fine for me (G4, Mac OS 9.2.2). The archived game files (links in my previous post) are in good shape (good working order).

One of the Read Me's gave a big headsup:

If you do NOT have the 4 hour Quake movie, Seal of Nehahra installed on
your Hard Drive then unzip the pak0.zip contained in this archive and
install the pak0.pak within to your quake/nehahra folder.

If you do not have the movie and you do not do this, the game will not
run properly.

Also another clue:

The .EXE files should sit in your quake/ directory. The PAK files in your
quake/nehahra, directory. It is not necessary to use the -game parameter
when running Nehahra.

If you have a dir structure like quake/nehahra/quake/nehahra or
quake/quake/nehahra, then you have improperly installed the game.

.EXE files here means the "MacNehahra" application. Wink

It looks like the Quake movie "Seal of Nehahra" can be installed too, but unzipping Pak0.zip seems to be the thing to do - if you don't have the movie - at least, this is what works for me.

The game itself, I haven't played it for long. There's a short level where you need to find "the route to Nehahra". Next comes an over-long animated sequence laying down the story for Nehahra. Its OK, but really L-o-n-g. Finally you get to play with some action. I've saved the game at this point, no sense in re-living the animation part Smile

Will play some more later.

@MCP: Thanks for the sourceforge link to 1.1b3 engine. I haven't tried this addon to Quake but will give it a go shortly to see if I can get it to play nicely. (Requires full Quake game and GLQuake + 3D card).

Doing a little research I found an archive of the now defunct "Nehahra Project". The links to downloading the full addon are still active, approx 50 MBs in 3 files to DL - so your 50MB zip file sounds about right too. The addon files are available at Fileplanet which requires free registration to DL... OK so I've done that and now have the addon to try out later.

Also at the Nehahra Project archive are links to DL the "The Seal of Nehahra" the Quake movie. Plus "The Tides of War" official Nehahra expansion pack. Will likely DL these as well.

I have a 50MB zip file that I found that is supposed to be the Nehahra game, but I haven't uploaded it because I haven't yet gotten it to work. I get as far as the opening difficulty-level select, but when I choose a level the game ends and starts running its demo mode. This is on a G3 PB WallStreet running OS 8.6.

Was going to upload the whole thing to the Quake page if and when I ever got it to work.

ADD: The version I've been trying is the last one, version 1.1b3: http://macglquake.sourceforge.net/downloads.html
