Guides on emulating older games

Homage to the 1980's arcade coin-op consoles, with psychedelia and sounds akin to Williams Defender, and with elements of Galaga and Centipede, played in the 'portrait' aspect ratio. Centipede gameplay has always been the basis of the Gridrunner franchise since it began in 1982 on the model Commodore VIC20 (the "unexpanded VIC20" at that).

A little bit not for children, like the word 'narcotics' is on the demo splash screen, and references to man-sheep love as are found in many of Jeff Minter's games. It's okay he does this, he's from Wales. Smile

I'm not sure if this game was intended for red-and-blue (red-and-cyan) 3D glasses, but look at all the red and blue in these screenshots and of course there is a strange effect on using 3D glasses, seemingly optional not a requirement.

There's a page now for "Gridrunner++" describing gameplay better than I could here. Knowing the history of the game, and what an "XY Zapper" is, helps to understand "I just exploded why??" Beware the XY Zapper.

Great game! Love Minter's games, it's a shame only this and Tempest 2000 got Mac versions.
