Guides on emulating older games

Before man climbed down from the trees to shop in megastores and drink cappuccino, before the Earth wadded itself into a cool blue ball, before the Moon even existed, there was the Island. The Island, a massive fragment of a long-lost planet, hurtling blindly through space. Upon the surface of this paradise wanders the giant, Kabuto. Little does Kabuto know that the Island was home to others before him. In the oceans, there dwells a matriarchal race called the Sea Reapers. In their pride, they created Kabuto, as a defense against intruders. But Kabuto became conscious of himself, his loneliness, his pain - and he went berserk.

Space castaways, the Meccs piloted their ship through space, looking for their missing friends. If you haven't guessed already, they ended up on the Island. Faced with yet another unscheduled layover while on their way to Planet Majorca, the Meccs decide to make the best of their temporary home. Just their luck - the natives are already embroiled in their own little war, and the Mecc visitors are most unwelcome!

Meccaryns... Sea Reapers... Kabuto... One island isn't big enough for the three of them.

Awesome - just an FYI if you need this in the future contains a sub-app that does that using Toast, but does it for you and then starts the game.

You might have something going on with your Disc Drivers. I really recommend getting this on GOG for a PC. VERY Cheap (on sale like $3) and looks better anyway.

thank you for your help, ive tried that, open the nocd from MR as described, tried opening the installed game, its still prompting for the disc. do i need to mount the disc one image also? i did try that also but still no go

That should fool the program into thinking the disc is inserted, now just open the program. The one in the link I posted does both, and then unmounts the image when you are done.

how does nocd work? i down loaded the file from MR, the sit expands into an img, when opened an empty disc image opens, not a cd image.

NOTE if you had terrible performance with an Nvidia card, try again with an ATI. I was getting under 10 FPS with Geforce 4 Ti (4600) just at the startup screen, but with Radeon 9000 Pro had 70-80+ FPS at MAX settings.

I have this game on the original 2 CDs, and the manual. It's a very cool game, actually. Over-the-top voice acting and nutty characters. If I can be of help just let me know; not sure how best to convert/upload this or whether that needs doing!

This game was PRETTY AWFUL for the Mac. Very poor graphic support. If you have an older PC to play it on, do that.

As of this post, CD download links here don't work but got mine off torrents. Apparently not only does that NoCD version not work (on osX Tiger 10.4.11) along with the NoCD image included in the torrent, but even burning the CD1 to disc and having that mounted still wants me to insert CD1 (literally in there!) when I try to run it.

Shame as this game was pretty nice on windows and could even make vista tolerable. Wiki page says the Mac version was much better received at launch time. Smile
