Guides on emulating older games

Yet another Space Invaders clone, Foreign Fruit Invaders v1.0.

There were some later bug fix releases (versions 1.0.1, 1.0.2 & 1.0.3). I don't know of their whereabouts - If anyone out there does; Please add them to this page.

I haven't been able to get it to run on Basilisk II or Sheepshaver.

Note: - Possibly actual Macs are out too. That is, version 1.0.3 fixes a nasty crash if you attempt to play this game after the year 2001! One could try setting the system clock back...

We need to find version 1.0.3.

If anyone gets this running on any Mac, please add game screenshots and info about FFI's game play.

Foreign Fruit Invaders is written in C using Symantec C++ v 7.0.

I have been using SAT (Sprite Animation Toolkit) by Ingemar Ragnemalm for all the animation. In fact this game is based on one of the demo's included in the SAT Package. The best things in life are free. That goes for the SAT-library as well. If you are a programmer you must check it out.

For handling menu's, windows and such, I've been using the Tran Skel library by Paul DuBois. Just like SAT: it's great and it's free.

Architecture: 68k

68k encoded. Foreign Fruit Invaders runs under Mac OS, version 7.1 or higher. It requires 256 colors, 14" or larger display, 68040 or PPC-processor.

Known problems

The invader sometimes don't turn at the end of the screen. This is caused by conflicts with other running programs or extensions. One extension known to cause this is "YesNoCancel", the bug is also reported to appear while running Acrobat Reader in the background. The workaround until I fixed this, is simply close other program and disable unnecessary extensions before running "Foreign Fruit Invaders".
