Emulation
Guides on emulating older games

A very difficult puzzle game.

Flippers is very simple to play but should be difficult to master.

In Flippers, tiles slide to the center of the screen. You can flip tiles by clicking on them, once they stop moving. The tiles will flip in various ways, depending on which level you are on. You must learn how the tiles flip so that you can manipulate them.

The object of Flippers is to create 3x3 blocks of tiles which are similar. When you do, those blocks will disappear creating more space. Initially, the tiles will have only two sides, white and gray. If you can make a solid block of nine tiles (3x3) gray or white, they will be destroyed giving you points and more space.

You lose if the tiles build up past the edge of the screen. Anytime a tile is next to the edge of the screen, you are in danger of losing. If a tile tries to enter the screen at that point you will lose. The object is to keep destroying sets of tiles so that they never build up to the edge. The longer you survive, the more points you get. You gain points faster as the levels increase.

Download is a StuffIt 3.5 archive containing a Disk Copy 4 disk image (1.4MB).

Compatibility
Architecture: 68k

The documentation doesn't say what version of OS the game requires. It definitely runs under OS 8 and 9. It might work under System 7 / 7.5 as well.

In Mini vMac under System 7 and 7.5 the game loads to the title screen, but crashes when trying to start the actual game ... I'm not sure if that's an emulation issue or that the game simply doesn't work under those OS versions.
