Color Dark Castle is the first computer game in the Dark Castle series developed after the rights were sold from Silicon Beach Software to Delta Tao.

Color Dark Castle is essentially a remake of the original Dark Castle, in color. Though it may seem identical besides the color at first, Delta Tao reported that they had to redo the code from scratch, also they added a new difficulty, and a "Secret Level".

Since this is a remake, the sequel to it would be Beyond Dark Castle. Another color version of Dark Castle was announced in 2000, titled Return To Dark Castle.

The sit file contains 2 floppy images. The images can be mounted with DiskCopy 6.3 or used to create floppies with DiskCopy 4.2.

This copy is a functioning pre-release version from 1994.

Architecture: 68k PPC

Tested in OS 9 and 7.5. Runs in 256 colors.

This one needs a little explanation.

Wikipedia says Color Dark Castle was not released until 1998. The title screen of this one has a 1994 date. This copy, as you can see in the last screenshot, has a "PreRelease" menu item in the menu bar.

I cannot find my original disks to try to double-check, but I think this prerelease version came from Delta Tao at the MacWorld Expo in San Fran. Off-hand, I can't remember the exact year I went, but it was that time period and I do remember talking to the Delta Tao guys at their booth. I remember that because we asked them if it was true that the female characters cheated in Spaceward Ho!.

The installer does not ask for a serial number. The serial number is automatically installed since this is a prerelease version.

I have not played all the way through, but it does seem to be a complete, if not final, version of the game.
