Bonkheads is a 2D platform computer game first published and developed in 1996 by 1AM Productions. It was re-released by Aspyr as Bonkheads Deluxe for the Mac OS, Windows and Linux. In the game, the player must rid of pests in 144 levels that comprise the game world. The player can play the role of Grag, or have a partner join the game as Thog. Bonkheads was only moderately successful, and was said by some fans to be underrated.

This retains the charm of the originial brothers Luigi & M., but is actually quite a bit of an improvement on it. When I say "the original", I don't mean "Super Mario", but the two-player simultaneous arcade game. I don't think many people with bother playing through the enormous number of levels provided, but it is a fine diversion for two players (and ten minutes). - no_ONE_is_anonymousE

As mentioned before, I'm not running Sheepshaver on a Mac OS. It not the "latest" version either. But the Old World ROM I use is from a Mac 9500 (ROM v1). This same ROM can be found at redundantrobot.com - look for the "Mac OS Classic Tutorial (SheepShaver)" page - the Old World ROM there is the same as the 9500 v1 ROM I use (checksums match). Its a pretty useful page for getting into Sheepshaver & Basilisk II. You could also try the New World ROM from there too.

Other than that I wouldn't know why its not working for you as it seems OK at my end. So good luck.

Hi, so eager to get Boneheads to work since it was my favorite game in the "old days". I did a complete reinstall of Mac OS 9.04. When I run "Old World ROM" I get the startup screen only and crash. Then when I run with "New World ROM" the app starts and then I get an error message "You must have Sound Manager 3.0 or higher to run Boneheads". Strange since my sound works fine. Any ideas?

I am running it with "old world rom", the one included with the latest SheepShaver. (COI.app/.old.rom).
Also tried to increase the default memory to 10MB. Still it only starts the app with the welcome screen. No sound.

Did you try this in Mac OS 9.0.4? It crashes every time.

It works OK for me. Ran it fine on Sheepshaver Mac OS's 7.6.1 and 9.0.4, both were OK including sound - Have only tried single player mode - no crashes as yet.

I am running Sheepshaver on a Windows OS, tho' that shouldn't affect the emulator. I am using an "Old World ROM" as a opposed to a "New World ROM", I don't know if that has any bearing.

I did increase the game's default memory settings (to approx. 10 MB)
To play, I ran Sheepshaver windowed at a 4x3 ratio, e.g.; 800x600 - As running the game in Sheepshaver's full screen mode, made the game's display go askew.

Did you try this in Mac OS 9.0.4? It crashes every time. Do I have to downgrade to Mac OS 8.6?

I am running SheepShaver 2.4 with Mac OS 9.04on a MacBook Pro 2010, i7 on Mac OS X 10.10.4. I can run the world creator but Boneheads Deluxe crashes SheepShaver and sometimes it shows the Bonkheads startup screen but there is no sound and it stays on the startup screen so I have to restart SheepShaver. Any ideas why? Where do I debug?

I think I only played a demo of this. A great remake of the original Mario Brothers. Beware of Shrew Man Chu!

this was my favourite game as a kid - it's awesome, and so many levels!

only thing is, I can't get it to work on sheepshaver. It starts up for a second but then has an error message saying "cannot find LEVELS file, must be in the same folder" etc etc
Does anyone know how to fix this?
Thanks Smile

I absolutely adore this game! Many hours spent progressing through the levels with my friend, and it's still quite hard, even with two players.

I could only get this one to work in SheepShaver running Mac OS 8.6 and later. It crashed Basilisk II every time (your mileage may vary).

Cute game, btw. Really nice looking graphics and presentation. Nice colour palette.

Basically a clone of the original Mario Brother arcade game (think: the time killer in Super Mario 3)
