A classic. If you like role-playing games and haven't played this one yet, here's your chance.
There's also an expansion pack, Tales of the Sword Coast, which adds several new quests, items, spells and some interface improvements as well as a multiplayer option, which does not work in Classic.
Followed by Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn.
A note about the downloads available from above:
GameRanger support: 1.0.2. only
GameRanger crossplay: No.
Doesn't run in Classic mode on versions higher than 10.3.
May be troublesome in SheepShaver.

well so now after mucking around a lot to get the autotyper to recognise the images, the first one will still not mount properly - game still wants me to insert a disk. i would buy a re-writable CD but that goes around the issue instead of fixing it. not to mention it's annoying as hell.
so, again, does someone have a properly installed version with a no-cd, an alternate image or something? i know this is a wild stab in the dark but you know, hope never dies.. : )
hmm problem is that the autotyper does not accept anything dropped onto it. : ( i might have to fix this in resedit. thanks, i'll look into this.
@bamdad I see. Did you drop the original ISO downloaded from here into the Virtual CD Autotyper? It should make the "not enough resources to mount image" message go away once you try mounting it with Virtual CD/DVD-ROM Utility again.
yep, the latest version. it said 'not enough resources to mount image'. so i mounted it with toast and created a new .iso. mounted that, it still gave me that annoying 'please insert disk 1' screen. even tried locking the image, as that sometimes helps.. no joy.
@bamdad Tried Virtual CD/DVD-ROM Utility yet?
could someone please please upload an installed nocd'd version of this (and preferably BGII-SoA)? no matter what i mount these buggers with (toast or dvd image mounter) after installation it wants me to insert disk 1..
Oh sorry, I probably mixed up the CDs with Baldurs Gate_II.
A pity - all that net traffic for uploading stuff to useless file hosters.
thank you for answer, but unfortunately on the macdomain.org is disk 1 only((
The disk images are on a Hotline server associated with macdomain.org.
An account at Knez´s WWW server is needed and a certain amount of postings in the forum to get access to the HL server.
What happened to links? Please, upload again...
No .dmg please, because this file format doesn't match Mac OS 9 and earlier.
And I think (but not for sure) there is no difference in file format between .toast (as given) and .iso,
except the suffix. You may simply rename the file extension from .toast to .iso to perform a first check, thought.
I am unable to mount any of these files with toast 10 or Virtual DVD-ROM/CD on an os 10.6 macbook, or os 9.2.2 and 10.4 emac booted into either. Could someone please upload dmg or iso images.
The image was made with Toast10 and it seems to mount with it too.
OSX tells me too, there was an error mounting the image.
Maybe I can try again with IMGBurn to create a ISO file, if there are more problems with Disk1.
Trying to mount Disc 1 on my tiger (10.4) I get the message that the image is not recognized. The four other discs are mounted without any trouble. Please help!
Thundersock, here´s the link to the image of disk 1: http://min.us/mbId1WVe0
Hope it is a valid image file.
It's true that you can't use Roxio Toast to mount this one, but if you can't get around the "Insufficient system resources" error in Virtual CD/DVD Imager, you can try mounting with Roxio, then creating an image in Virtual CD/DVD Imager. Those never give me problems.
Hi Trine29.
No way (at least for me) to mount the CD images in Classic under OS X (10.3.9), same error. But in system OS 9.2.2 "Virtual DVD-ROM/CD Utility" works perfectly...
On iMac, 800 MHz, 512 MB RAM, PPC G4, System 9.2.2.
Baldur's Gate works pretty well... but TOTSC has SERIOUS problems. It crash with "type error 2" at game starting... it is not a memory problem I think, but a software problem. The only way I found is to start a new game in BG 1, then transfer it to TOTSC save folder and load it. This way the game starts and the expansion can be played but remains one (or more..?) big bug: the killers around the land who wants your head for money, after the dialog does not attack... They remains red circled but does not attack... It happens also with others enemies, always when a previous dialog takes place. Strange that this does not happens in BG 1... it's an expansion problem...
So, any ideas? Why the expansion corrupts BG 1 gameplay? A Mac patch for TOTSC doesn't exist... after many, many tries I think the problem is the executable of TOTSC... or something in the Baldur.ini file? Anyone encountered such problems..?
H-E-L-P...
Game wouldn't recognize the toast files so I tried using the Virtual DVD-ROM/CD Utility on two machines (one through sheepshaver and another through an ancient mac that still has classic on it) and both gave me an error saying "There are insufficient system resources to mount this image" Any ideas on how to deal with this? Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks!
Thanks for the upload! Tales of the Sword Coast doesn't want to load for me, but I suspect it's because my computer doesn't have enough memory (type 1 and 2 errors). And since my G3 is 12 years old and going to be replaced soon, I kinda don't see the point of giving it more memory, especially since I'm curious about all the mods I've been reading about (and they only work in OS X now...meh).
Thank you for uploading it Carl. I always wanted to try it and it works like a charm on my iBook G3 366 Mhz under OS 9.2.2
If you have Windows XP (maybe older versions too) you can download the trial version of TransMac (http://www.asy.com/scrtm.htm) and use that to burn the toast image. At least I know it worked for the cd image of MacOS 9.0.4 on here.
I haven't tried this game myself yet, but assuming you're using Mac OS 9 or earlier, you can try:
http://macintoshgarden.org/apps/virtual-dvd-romcd-utility
I use it in OS 9 to mount Toast images and fool copy protection that checks for CDs. Sometimes mounting with DiskCopy or Toast doesn't fool the copy protection check.
hi all, I'm wondering if there's a way to mount these images so that the game will recognize them. I'm using toast to mount it, but the game doesn't see it. txs
I don't think you even need an e-mail address. It's been some weeks since I made my account, though, so I don't remember. Mine is free, but you get a lot of space. I think I've uploaded some 5 gigs so far.
Thanks Carl,
I tried the OSX 10.3 and 10.4 BOMArchiveHelper, and the OSX 10.5 Archive Utility. Both process the file for some time before failing. I suspect perhaps an incomplete upload, which happens to me a few times too when uploading to this site.
I used the built-in "archive" feature in Mac OS X for all the discs, as I do for all my CD uploads. I'll upload TotSC again soon, something probably went wrong.
TotSC is corrupt fpr me too.
Stuffit Expander v7.0.3 crashes out pretty quick,
BOMArchiveHelper uncompresses for a minute or so and then fails with an "Operation not permitted".
Which version of Zip was used to compress it ?
The Tales of the Sword Coast image failed to unzip. I'm assuming it is corrupt. Can anyone verify? I want to make sure it is a problem across the board before I ask that it be re-uploaded.
Similar to Monkey Islands 4 - runs best in Classic modes up to 10.2 Jaguar.
Yeah, I'm always awake at this hour, (for some reason, I am more productive at nights)
I go to sleep every day at around 5:00am
Holy shit. That was the fastest reply I've ever seen.
Well they're fixed now, enjoy the game.
