there used to be this big repository of Mac games i would frequent all the time. can't remember what it was called but i am pretty sure it was InfoMac. it was in plain text and would basically be a huge list of HQX or BIN archives with only description files (called abstracts) to accompany them. i think it was hosted at a university or something. i am guessing that MacFormat picked it up on their own because i never got emails asking to do it.

i uploaded Attack of the Ma-Mas there when it was eventually made. it astounds me that magazines picked it up. it was even distributed overseas. i think because the subject matter was so out there and made sense to nobody but me and my friend group. i got hate mail once, calling me out for editing Barney Carnage & having the gall to call it shareware. that guy was totally right.

if you ever find the magazine or issue i would love to see a scan or photo of it, even if it's just the name.

P.S. the "ma-mas" got their shape because i would try to irritate my school friends by using my fingers to "walk" on their shoulders and tell them it's a weird tiny alien. eventually i drew pictures of them and they came out looking like that.

P.P.S. there's an unreleased sequel, another ResEdit hackjob, called Operation: Ma-Ma.

Neat, always interesting to hear how these things came about.
I found this on a MacFormat, did you submit it to that or did they find it themselves?

I take it they are supposed to be an arse and legs?

yeah, so, this was me.

i was twelve years old, had a copy of ResEdit, and an awful inside joke among my friends (the titular Ma-Ma's). i thought i was hot shit "making" my own games. i didn't stop editing games but this was the first & last i ever actually released online. i had no idea it would spread. so the Mac community has my 20-year-late apology for this piece of garbage.

some poor soul actually sent me money for this once. i still feel bad when i think about it.

Works fine in SheepShaver running Mac OS 8.6. Didn't work in Basilisk when I tested.
