A direct sequel to Assassin's Creed, the game focuses again on Desmond Miles after he escapes from Abstergo Industries with the help of employee Lucy Stillman. In an attempt to thwart Abstergo and the modern-day Templars, Desmond uses a new Animus to relive the genetic memories of his ancestor, Ezio Auditore da Firenze, who lived in Italy during the Renaissance. The player controls Desmond to a degree, but primarily Ezio, who becomes an Assassin after his family is betrayed. While controlling Ezio, the player can explore renditions of major Italian regions and cities through a mixture of action, stealth, and economic gameplay.(assassinscreed.fandom.com)
This is the first release in the series for the Mac..
Downloads 1 - 4 are the parts of a zipped archive of the game install disc image. To reassemble, place all the parts in one folder, then drag the .001 file to The Unarchiver. This will join all the parts and unzip the archive.
When first launched, the game will try to download and install a patch that updates the game (to v. 1.0.1) as well as the Ubisoft Game Launcher. This combined patcher can be found at this Ubisoft link. However, the updated Ubisoft launcher seems have problems getting to the login screen for Assassin's Creed II, so we only want the game update (see next download).
Download 5 contains the installer that updates the game application to v. 1.0.1. (extracted from the combined patcher mentioned above). It fixes a fatal error when the game is launched.
The game, as released, requires users to be connected to the Internet while playing.
Download 6 contains AC2 Launcher (authored by Apokarteron) which is a game server emulator for Assassin's Creed II that allows the game to be played offline.
Download 7 contains AC2 Launcher for Leopard (authored by thedoctor45) which allows the game to be played offline on Mac OS X 10.5.8.
Instructions for playing the game offline
1) Install the game in the default folder.
2) Update the game to v. 1.0.1 using Download #5.
3) Now run the AC2 Launcher application which should ask you to authorise changes before presenting you with the game login screen. If it does not, then quit it and open it again. Enter anything you like as the Name and Password. The only restriction is that the password must satisfy certain criteria (you will be told what they are if your password does not qualify). For example, 1234Abcd is a satisfactory choice.
4) You should now be able to play the game offline.
About AC2 Launcher
When AC2 Launcher is run, it adds entries to the /private/etc/hosts file, starts the server emulator via a python script called tserver.py, and then opens the game. I suggest that you save a copy of your hosts file somewhere before your first run of AC2 Launcher so that you can restore it by replacement if you need to. Note that tserver remains active after you quit AC2 Launcher. If you need to quit the server, you can either quit the python process (it should be the only such process) using Activity Monitor or reboot your Mac.
Running Assassin's Creed II and Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood on the same Mac
If you install Brotherhood after you install Assassin's Creed II, you will replace the Ubisoft Game Launcher located in /Library/Application Support/Ubisoft. This will render Assassin's Creed II unplayable (at least in my tests). If you want both AC2 and Brotherhood to be simultaneously installed and playable, the solution is to keep aside copies of Ubisoft Game Launcher installed by each game. Then, when you want to play one of the games after playing the other, just swap the relevant copy of Ubisoft Game Launcher into /Library/Application Support/Ubisoft.
All testing was done on a 2009 MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard

Alright, I've added my Leopard compatible launcher to the page - install instructions are included in the archive. In case anyone is having problems with it, please let me know.
Was not expecting this one to show up until later...
Yes, sounds like a good addition. Please upload it separatedly!
Thanks for the share. Imho, this is a pretty bad port tho - for example, on Laptop computers, external keyboards often aren't recognized and overall performance is pretty bad on anything other than a MacPro system. Also the mouse gets really jerky and the audio gets badly out of sync if the framerate drops below a certain value...
I've created my own cracked launcher app that addresses the keyboard issue by deactivating the kernel extension for the internal keyboard. My launcher also still lets you play the game on 10.5.8 Leopard (the original launcher only supported 10.6.8 iirc) but on Leopard you have to install pyOpenSSL & twisted first. In case anyones interested in my launcher I could add it to the page.
