Ares is a tactical space-combat game, combining elements of both arcade shooters and real-time strategy games.
Ares has since been open-sourced; a port to Mac OS X is available.

For anyone that might be searching, the latest Tiger/Leopard version of Antares is 0.5.1. I presume the binaries are universal, but i didn't personally check that for myself yet.
Antares still working in 10.10.5 on real and Hackintosh hardware
I just released Antares 0.6.1. 0.6.1 fixed a bug that was reported to me from a 10.6.8 iMac, so I think your chances are good.
Any news on how the Mac OS X Antares port works?
I am going to try it tomorrow under Mac OS X 10.7.5 on my mid-2010 iMac. Fingers well-and-truly crossed!
Sfiera, ever any interest in HD remakes of the music? If you have an interest, let me know. My username AT gmail, is the easiest way to get in touch. I'd love to do such a thing, to do my part to contribute to what I think is a great piece of Mac gaming history
Linux just as good. Once people embrace the Linux version (Open Source), then a Windows port shouldn't be too far off in the future.
on windows? bah... this game needs to be avariable for iPhones!!!!
i write some mail to ambrosia with the suggested idea of making the combat interface of Ares avariable at the next EscapeVelocity Nova... no answer yet, but that´s would be really great...
A Windows port is unlikely to happen in the near future, partially for a couple of technical reasons (thankfully, the resource fork is not one of them), but mostly because I don't have a Windows machine to do it with. I'm not opposed to it, though. If you have a Linux machine available to you, that's much more likely in the short term.
You forgot a 'n': Non Windows.
Great news on the ports!!!
Cannot wait to see this in HD with real 3D models! on WINDOWS!!!
