The original survival horror. Investigate the mystery of an artist's suicide, and fend off a whole lot of monsters. G3Throttle, which solves the stair bug, is included for convenience.

The difference between this and the floppy version is that it has voiceovers when reading things like notes, parches and books, and the font used to display text in those documents is smaller and better spaced. Everything else is exactly the same.

See also Alone in the Dark (floppy version), Alone in the Dark 2, Alone in the Dark 3 and Alone in the Dark Trilogy.
This game is also available for DOS.

French version wouldn't be any help to me, but others might appreciate it.

I think you're right in that the first game didn't have CD audio after all. I need to have a closer look at the Trilogy set.

Could anyone upload the full disc with CD audio tracks intact?

I've have the french version of the CD at home, and it does not contain additional audio tracks (while Alone In The Dark 2 and 3 do have audio tracks).

But, stuffed version of my disc's image is 79Mbytes, compared to the 33MBytes of the one available on the garden. Should I upload my version ?

No, that's difficult.

It's confirmed. Slowing down your OS with G3 Throttle solves the stair bug.

Edit: The original file included two invisible folders with movies, one from the Frankenstein demo and other from the Flashback (enhanced version) demo, none of which are necessary (I did my tests). So I removed them and I also removed the floppy version to give it its own page, and the file size was reduced from 136.5 MB to 33.3 MB. I also added G3Throttle to the image as a convenience.

If you already downloaded the bloated version of this file, you don't have to download it again because it offers nothing new. To get rid of the extra 103.2 MB, mount the AloneCD image, copy the four visible files to a folder with the same name (this is important) and drop this folder onto the Disk Copy icon to turn it into a disk image.

Thanks for the heads up though.

G3 Throttle is supposed to fix that problem. I haven't tested it yet.

Hopefully the stair bug is fixed in the CD version? Anyone?

I remember playing this when it came out and it's the same as this one you walk down the stairs and you walk right back up. and I'm running 9.1 os Classic.

Good idea. Stair bug only occurs on later systems.

I think this version still has that bug, according to the old page. I think there are possible fixes in the comments.

Thanks! Just one question, has the stair bug been fixed? I remember this being uploaded to the old mac garden, and you couldent get down the stairs at the very start of the game.
