Age of Empires III is the third installment in the series of real-time strategy games. The main idea of the gameplay remains unchanged: with the limited amount of resources and a handful of settlers, you must think about the expansion of your colony. Besides the strong economic thread, you should also think about the development of your army. Like in the previous games your people start in an early part of humanity's history and progress to new ages (up to the industrial age) with better weapons and other possibilities.

The 1st & 2nd downloads contain the parts of the zipped game disc (Universal Binary).
The 3rd download is the updater to version 1.0.6.
The game requires a mounted DVD, or an image mounted with Toast to play (mounting by double clicking the image is not sufficient), but this requirement disappears after the updater is applied.
The 4th download is the Quick Reference document.
The 5th download is The WarChiefs expansion pack (released 2007). The WarChiefs installer works in Leopard but appears to be incompatible with Snow Leopard and above.
The 6th download is a version of The WarChiefs installer, modified to work with Snow Leopard. Also tested to work in El Capitan.
The 7th download is the WarChiefs 1.0.3 updater. It can also be found via the Wayback Machine at the old Destineer/MacSoft support page.
The 8th download is a manual install of Age of Empires III - The WarChiefs.zip, already updated.
The 9th download is The Asian Dynasties expansion pack (released 2008)
The 10th download is the Asian Dynasties 1.0.1 updater. It can also be found via the Wayback Machine at the old Destineer/MacSoft support page.
The printed manual has too many pages for me to scan, so I have uploaded the PC manual instead.
GameRanger support: 1.0.3+
GameRanger crossplay: No.

how does it work
-->how do you open 001 & 002<---
Put them in the one folder or on the Desktop and drag 001 to The Unarchiver. This will join the parts 001 and 002 and unzip the archive. (See my comment further down the list from 2019)
how do you open 001 & 002
My guess is that AoE3 is a 32-bit application, and so has no chance of running in Catalina or later without emulation or a VM (virtual machine) setup.
I'm attempting to run this on macOS Catalina (v.10.15.6) with no luck. I've placed the .toast file into the Applications folder, and when I attempt to run the base game (before update), it says it must be updated to work on my version of macOS. I get the same message when I attempt to run the updater file, File 3. Any advice on if it's possible to get this working would be really appreciated!
@thebelgian: Put the files .001, .002 into one folder then drag the .001 file onto The Unarchiver which will combine all the parts and unzip the archive.
I can't extract the .zip_.001et .zip_.002, can you explain me why
When launching it states
"make sure original dvd-rom ....."
help!
solution: Update game
As far as I can see, the 6th file seen above is an OS X installer application also compatible to El Capitan, which would probably need the initial CD (image) mounted to the computer (1st and 2nd file seen above, put together).
hey guys im a new laptop user only got one a month ago and i just needed help, how would i go about installing all these programmes onto my macbook el capitan, ita just abit confusing for me and would like to play this game
Had the DATAPX.BAR issue as well and found a solution. Put the application within your application folder first. Once it is there fire it up and it should work!
The WarChiefs installer works in Leopard but seems to be incompatible with Snow Leopard and above. One solution for those having problems is to do the install on a Mac running Leopard and then copy the applications (AOE3 + expansion) to your later system. I have found that this strategy works for running WarChiefs in Snow Leopard. However, that is not very convenient and may be not possible for some. So I have found a way to modify the installer so that it now works on Snow Leopard at least. I have tested that it also works on El Capitan. The modified installer is now uploaded here (6th DL)
Hey,
I got the base game to work as well as the Asian Dynasties expansion, but I can't get the War Chiefs to install it crashes on the writing files portion, and the downloaded updated game file for it you have pops up an error message that says I'm missing DATAPX.BAR in order to initialize. Any ideas or fixes I can try? Thanks for uploading this, i'm loving it!
Thanks for uploading this game.
After running "Age of Empires III.toast" (obtained by unzipping .zip_.001 & .zip_.002 files), I see mounted drive. However, when I run "Age of Empires III", its giving below error.
Age of Empires III requires at least 1024.0 MB of free disk space. Free
up some space on your local disk and then re-launch Age of Empires III.
I do have 40GB of free space. When I drag "Age of Empires III" to my local folder, it gives me error saying it requires DVD-ROM.
It would be great helpful if anyone has solution for this issue. Thank you very much.
I am looking forward to play this game again.
I would say, drag the first - the .zip.001 - onto a zip program that can read and expand split zip files. This could even be on Windows.
OMG, is AoE III really 11 years old ?
I downloaded the first three. Can't get it to work. When I try to open any of them it is asking for an application to use. Any tips?
Some of the civilizations have most of the home city cards missing. The ottomans only have four or five cards available, for example. It's not a huge inconvenience but it would be cool if this could be fixed somehow.
Edit: This issue actually seems to be caused by attempting to install the war chiefs. When I tried, the install failed and most of the home city cards in the base game were deleted for all civs. A clean install of the base game fixed the issue.
When I try opening Age_of_Empires_III.zip_.002 I get a message that there was an error with opening the contents. When I try installing only the .001 zip file (the first one), that works, as does the updater. But then when I try updating to War Chiefs a message comes up saying there was an error in installation and does not work.
This game will work on an intel Mac. I have it running on both my Mac Pro and MacBook Air both of which are running the latest OS. You don't need a PowerPC to play this.
I upload manual install of Age of Empires III - WarChiefs. already updated.
hmm tis a shame my iMac g4 is not powerful enough to run it, says i need to have at least 64mb video ram. and does not launch, fare enough i thought it might still at least try to run.
There seems to be a slight problem with loading a saved game.
Everytime I try, the game crashes. I've tried upping performance, but that doesn't help and anyway it runs very smoothly even without lowering texture quality etc. when I restart the entire mission.
Any suggestions?
