A 23 minute documentary interview about the history of Myst:

How Myst Almost Couldn't Run on CD-ROM | War Stories | Ars Technica
Cyan Worlds co-founder Rand Miller goes behind the scenes of the development of one of the best selling PC games of all time, Myst. The HyperCard-developed title ran into some snags when trying to run on the CD-ROM format. "I had a really powerful Mac, with a lot of memory and a lot of hard drive space, and we were still working in mud," said Rand, discussing the game's performance early-on. Rand and his brother, Robyn, compressed the image and audio data as much as they could so the game could run smoothly on 1x CD-ROM drives.

I really like myst but the Japanese version is a bit strange. when I downloaded the Japanese version and started the game if you go ahead with the left and right arrows with the keyboard the images all go at random and there are also bugs

FRworld; I've watched the trailer, looked at the images and skimmed the reviews, what I see I really like... unfortunately myself personally am swamped with work to play for the time being. Your offer is extremely generous, hat off for you! I will however purchase it Smile

And, I would like to exempt you from the ten year rule on this particular title, if you want to make a page and link to the store. Entirely up to you, since I see it's Mac compatible.

As everyone, I was astonished (to say the least) by the graphics when Myst came out. Wow wow wow. If CD-ROM is going to be like this, I want one right now! Smile unfortunately, while Myst was great to tell PC users about the excellency of Mac gaming ("you're playing a Mac game, did you know?") I never quite got into Myst. I don't know if it is the story or some of the puzzles, but it was never such a gaming highlight to me as it was to others. (@amatecha, if you read this, I'd really love to hear your story about it changed your life!)

Hi Mike,

May be the download I've done was bad. The image was not recognized under Windows too. I need to resolve that. Anyway, thxs for (re)uploading the file in zipped format, FRworld. Smile

[EDIT] Ok. Finally, the only way to mount this image was into an emulator's GUI on my side. No way to mount it under Windows nor with Toast in Mac OS X. So, I have converted it & now it mount normally under Mac OS X. Smile

I have noticed however that the game menus would not work if you are in US/English Mac OS Classic systems & so, the French game version works only with French systems...

Hi MacTouch. The French disc mounts OK for me, using Toast on OS X Tiger to mount the iso and this then loads and mounts OK in Basilisk II also OK. Perhaps something went wrong with your download?

The only criticism I can note, is the archivist had mounted the image unlocked, prior to zipping it up. Allowing the Finder to update the image's desktop database and date and time-stamp the image on 09 August, 2018. But this does not affect it's use.

[Edit] While writing this FRworld replied - so it's likely I tried his fresh upload Wink

Hi! The image is working with SheepShavers. Maybe something went wrong with the upload. I re-uploaded the ISO and a zipped version of it. Did it solve the problem?

Thanks FRworld for the French version of this game, but it seems the disc image is not recognized... Sad

Changed my f'ing life so much. Can't even begin to describe how much this game/series has influenced me. Godlike masterpiece of gaming history. I think if I ever had to choose just a single game in my entire life that would be the greatest.... this would probably be it.

Euryale, just brun it with toast.... To do this drag the disk image file to the toast app and click the big red burn button, toast will sort everything out for you!

Spent 5 hours looking for it through Google, my BMUG PD-ROMs, my EduCorp HyperCard stacks cd-roms, etc. Nowhere has it. I can find mentions and get the exact filename from info-mac digests from 1994, but can't find the file. It was built very similar to the UHS (Universal Hint System) web hints:

I know I have it somewhere on an old magaize cover cd-rom (but I have thousands) because I had the hints before I ever had dial-up internet access. At least I can start with the free cover floppies, which I have imaged on disk.

Somewhere I must have the official hints stack (requires HyperCard) that helps understand and solve the game. Shame it's not one of the preferred doc formats.

Must be sitted at least (.sit), but it's preferred to put it onto a Disk Copy (*.img) file, then sit.

Does this include the Mechanical Age fix ? And the v1.01 upadtes for all the ages and the app ? Both are (together) only a 100K donload from info-mac archive, but I didn't want to download 400MB to try to find out.

The info-mac archive used to have my Myst Hints stack, but there's only a german version there now, I'm hoping it's on one of my BMUG cd's - now there's an enormous source of old sofware / shareware and everything else you could imagine.
