Urgently Wanted: German dictionary files for BBEdit and/or MS-Word/Apple Works

Looking for any German spell checker / dictionary files for any MacOS 8.1 68k Word Processor that can handle either plain text, RTF or MS-Word format (I got most of them installed).

RagTime wont count, probably?
We had the German version running for years: http://macintoshgarden.org/apps/ragtime-32-privat

In principle a good suggestion, but unfortunately the Garden version is Ragtime *Private* (also known as "Solo") of which Wikipedia states:
"RagTime Solo included the same features and performance (except for spelling and Syllabification) dictionaries)"
So exactly the stuff I am looking for is missing from that package Sad

See 2nd DL in Microsoft Select Application Pool page.

CD contains Word 6, German & Int. English, so will have dictionaries for both languages. Also contains Office for German/English, but Word 6 should suffice, if all you want is a spelling checker.

You might also want to check out Nisus Compact - the 2nd DL in page (German). It's light-weight and has spelling dictionaries.

BTW - Regarding what Wikipedia states about RagTime: This may be true for later versions of RagTime Solo but not for this version of RagTime Privat 3.2 - It too includes a German spelling dictionary.

Thanks Mike for clarifying!
As you may have guessed, my wife switched from RagTime 3.2 to some stuff from the MS app pool and to Pagemaker back in the days - until she got MS Office 98, that is.
Not that she liked Office much, I recall heaps of documentation made with RagTime, but PC´s began to catch up and compatibility to a mediocre OS was beginning to press harder each year.

I found Excalibur quite useable. There are versions for 68k, PPC, MacOS X. It is open source.

There are 68k friendly packs of German dictionaries for Excalibur: http://dl.knubbelmac.de/work/wordprocessing/German%20Dict%202.1%20Excali...

Woah, I didn't even fathom there could be so many options and Excalibur even covers post-reform German spelling.
Super thanks, you folks helped me out a lot with this!

The problem with Excalibur: No hyphenation dictionaries.
Another Option might be ClarisWorks:
http://macintoshgarden.org/apps/clarisworks-5-fat
or WordPerfect:
http://macintoshgarden.org/apps/wordperfect-351-corel
combined with Claris Translators:
http://macintoshgarden.org/apps/claris-translators

The best dictionaries, however, has FrameMaker (works, I believe, with Claris Translators, but has has good FrameMaker translators, too):

If you do not need hyphenation dictionaries, Spell Catcher has better dictionaries than Excalibur:
