Trying to get X-Wing running

Hey guys, I downloaded X-Wing from here at MG but I am getting the "No CD in Tray" dialog and it quits out. So I loaded SheepShaver with the X-Wing image volume loaded thinking that would do it but no luck. I am running SheepShaver with the NewWorldROM on System 9.0. The last thing I can think of is to burn a physical CD of the disk and give it a shot. Anyone have any suggestions other than burning the disk?

Some games simply don't work if you only mount the disc image in Toast. I have X-Wing and I have it running very well on my PowerMac, though I've burned a disc. Try the same and your problem should be gone. Good luck fighting the Empire Wink

All the LucasArts games work just fine for me from images (be it DiskCopy or Toast or whatever) mounted on the desktop of my old macs. I don't use SheepShaver though.

I downloaded this game long ago for my nephews and it works fine in Sheepshaver but...
I also burned it on a CD.

never tried it mounting it cuz I ran out of HD space.

Euryale,

you really need to invest in some hard disk for your Mac systems. It makes life so much easier and it doesn't have to be expensive.
Accumulated just under 14TB across 14 drives in 3 Macs and 4 desktop drives. That doesn't include the old 35MB in my SE.

Yeah but I´m constantly moving and I´m very seldom at home,
so I can only carry my trusty Toshiba 40Gb which I use for my reherasals, Keyboard and Guitar Fx,
so I bring with me only emulators like ePSXe and Basilisk, N64, AppleWin, Znes, to pass the time..
actually righ now I´m hacking someone´s internet line with wifislax,
(my exboyfriend taught me how to do that)
anyway, as soon as I get back home I´ll consider investing mo´money on drive, I really need them.

...By the way,
I use Basilisk for this game and it works fine.
but as I said, i had to use a burned CD.

The only game I've tried that hasn't fallen for a virtual disk image (I was forced to burn an actual CD) was Railroad Tycoon II. I'm burning "collections" of abandonware, though. I wish I had custom labels.

A wise approach - I'm continuosly suprised by the nuggets I encounter that have no backups of any of their documents or downloads. All PC owners as it turned out.
Some clever ones listen and go off and buy an external 640GB disk for half price, some actually start to burn DVD-Rs (at £0.20 each - and that's for the high quality Verbatim). Most don't listen and have no backups.

"custom labels" ? When I last bought a new printer I made sure it had a CD printing tray. But same model in the US doesn't have the physical tray for the CDs. Anyway, works a treat. Printable DVD-Rs are normally £1 more per 50 than the regular DVD-Rs, but no-one buys them, so I get them when they're on offer, BOGOF. The included software is great, once you have it set up.

Make sure you use high-quality discs made by Taiyo Yuden (most "Made in Japan" discs are such, but some are fake). These are the least susceptible to CD rot and similar deterioration.

I'll burn a disc once I get my 24" iMac back. I only have my 12" iBook right now and to be honest, I hate using it. I'm in transition of a move to a new condo and my main machine is in storage Sad I miss it.
