Trouble in Word 6 Paradise

Hello World,

I am trying to edit a document written in German with MS Word 6 (68k MacOS 8.1).
Strangely enough I can't get the German spell checker to work
I've got the original setup, with all my dictionary files stored locally. I checked the settings in the Option->File Location dialog and I even provided aliases for the Microsoft:Spelling folder in the Extensions folder. But try as I may I always get the error message "Can not find the German dictionary file".
MS Word finds the US English and French dictionary files just fine. So either the naming is off ("German Dictionary") or I am missing something else here, big time.

It would be evil if the German dictionary file is written in German. Laughing out loud
All jokes aside, if it was there beforehand and it worked, my biomed technician senses tell me that the file may have been corrupted. Have your tried installing a fresh copy?

The darn thing is: My deranged mind keeps telling me that this used to work. But restoring a version of the file, from a time when this was *supposed* to be working, yielded no difference in program behaviour whatsoever. Shock

Well that's no good at all. If MS Word 6 was corrupted, one would think that the other dictionary files wouldn't work either, however stranger things have happened. Have you tried uninstalling/reinstalling Word 6?

Even the French dictionary works flawlessly - and uninstalling/reinstalling Word? Be merciful, I am trying to write a book here!
