TechTool3 Weird Updater Error

Hello Folks,

when I try to install the TTPro Update (https://macintoshgarden.org/apps/techtool-pro-306) it gives me the weird error message that "this is not a 68000 Computer" then it quits.

I am running on Basilisk-II - that's as 68k as it gets, this side of real physical hardware.

You mean the 3.0.9 update? If so, according to that page, it is PPC only (which makes that error message weird).

But if you mean some 3.0.6 or lower updater that may come bundled with the original, 1st download, then I don't know. Maybe it's seeking a specific 68k processor (i.e. 68020 vs. 68040) or it somehow expects a different Mac ROM. I'd try all those emulator options within Basilisk, or use mini vMac, and try things out.

Its the 3.0.9 update and it specifically complains: "this program requires a 68000 CPU to run".

Then it seems that error message was a mistake, as the PPC-only limitation statement seems to originate from the official website:

NOTE: TechTool Pro 3 [3.0.9] will ONLY work on machines that have a PowerPC processor. TechTool Pro 3.0.6 was the last supported version of TechTool Pro 3 that will work on 68K machines.

As for why the message is wrong, I believe it's likely it was a simple oversight when the developers wrote the message, perhaps intending to write "this program requires a PowerPC CPU to run" and got it backwards.

Well in that case I'll file a bug report with the devloper and skip the upgrade. Wink

The developer is micromat. They have drop 68k and Power PC support. They only support is intel. They are moving to intel x64 with Techtool pro 12 in fall 2019. Here is developer website https://www.micromat.com/

Where's the "ironic" smiley when you need one? Smile
