Swapping hard drives

Hello

I recently got a powerbook 145b to work unfortunately the only issue is screen wont work the cable is ripped. I tried swapping the hard drive from the 145b to a powerbook duo 210 and it says the hard disk is not working on this mac. I dont know why since 7.1 is the minimum system for both powerbooks. Is there a way to fix this? I want to see whats on the 145b hard disk. It boots on the 145b i jusy cant see anything. I hear a simpsons quotes when the 145b loads what is that?

One possible issue here, is with SSW 7.1, if that's what is on the PB 145b HD.

That model didn't require a System Enabler with SSW 7.1 whereas the PB Duo 210 requires System Enabler 201 (or the PowerBook Duo Enabler) to be present if it is going to run a 7.1 OS.

Are you able to boot up on a floppy Disk Tools disk? Or an external SCSI HD? You could get the enabler into the 145's HD that way.

The Simpsons sounds could be some 3rd party novelty software designed to give Simpsons quotations at boot time.

Thats the issue probably. I dont have a way to plugin a disk on the duo. Is there a key combo i could use to bypass the dialog?

If the Simpson's sounds are enabled by a Control Panel or Extension then usually holding the "Shift" key down during the boot up will start up a Mac with Extensions off.

But if it's launched by via alias in the "Startup Items" folder inside the System Folder, then it will be more difficult. You'd then need to know what this software was and if there was some way of controlling it's behaviour. "Command+Q" (then "Enter") will usually kill a program running in the Finder.
