SuperCard

Looks like it's okay to post SuperCard downloads again, because per Solution, etc.'s page, it states:

SuperCard 4.8.1 and Catalina

SuperCard remains a 32-bit application and will continue to be for the foreseeable future. This means it is not compatible with Catalina (macOS 10.15) or later versions of macOS.

SuperCard is currently natively compatible with any Mac running macOS versions Tiger thru Mojave, so we recommend holding off upgrading your Mac to Catalina. For users that must upgrade to Catalina, we have confirmed Parallels 15 is compatible with Catalina, and can host a Virtual Machine with an older OS version that supports SuperCard.

Has anybody tried to contact them recently?

The Wikipedia page states that the latest version (4.8.1) was released on February 7th, 2020, but they seem to have been a victim of the pandemic.

Seems like they went out of business...

I still see a working PayPal form to purchase a license for the latest version. They seem to be in business.

Could be similar to Fontographer 5, where the developer has no plans to update the software beyond Mojave support, but they're still selling it.

When they were asked if the last Mac OS 9.2.2 version was still for sale and, if so, where it could be obtained or downloaded, the developer didn't address it at all (but confirmed version 4.5.2 to be the latest traditional Mac OS version, if they are not mistaken, since 4.6 is UB-only), here.

That sucks, and it sucks even more how whatever even more archaic versions we used to have had to be taken down because they requested us to. They don't host older versions anywhere themselves, and old software and their add-on components now get lost and not preserved.

But is SuperCard actively sold? Yep, very much so, their website makes it very clear, with trial URLs and everything.

And is it actively developed? Right now I don't know, but until very recently, it was: a 64-bit version for Catalina and later was/is in the works. You can see that by looking through the history of their Google group here. Their latest version, 4.8.1, is fresh from 2020, and maybe more may come.

So, no, we cannot host the latest versions here. And even the older versions, unless if we get explicit permission from them somehow.

I downloaded SuperCard 3.52 from Mac Garden about 10 years ago and still have the .sit in my archives. Is it okay to put it back up?

I certainly appreciate the thought, but probably not, based on this 2021 thread:

Hi,

I have noticed v4.5.2 of SuperCard is, at least as far as I know, unavailable for download, and I was wondering if Solutions Etcetera was willing to allow it to be archived and preserved for the future, for Mac OS 9.2.2 enthusiasts, assuming it is not for sale anymore.

If it is for sale, then would it be the same price as a full v4.8.1 license? Do we get a download link upon purchase?

For sale or not, it'd be great to know if we still have the possibility of downloading that version and compatible add-ons, plug-ins and documentation, as used to be hosted a long time ago.

Thank you for your attention!

AFAIAC… any currently licensed user (4.8.x) can request previous versions of SuperCard as long as they adhere to our upgrade license policy; i.e. no two or more versions can be used simultaneously, and if more than a single version is used, additional licenses are required.

I don't expect demand to be high here, so unless proven otherwise this will be a one off thing where you will need to contact support: https://supercard.us/support-request.html

Full version is sold for 280 USD.

Might it be feasable to ask them about hosting v3.52 once more? I mean its 68k only code, that couldn't possibly impact their present day business model.
