Strata 3D 3.0 DEMO

Hi,
I'm looking for a copy of Strata 3D 3.0 (or 3.0.2, or 3.5) DEMO, that was called Strata3D-freeversion at the time (2000-2001). Tried looking into magazine CDs of the period, but no joy so far, and it takes time.
Only could find a win version, useless for me. So if anyone have a Mac version .... Smile

I've got it somewhere I think... it's also on a MacAddict CD from November 98 I think.

There is a Strata 3D v3.0 on MacAddict CD #48 August 2000 issue - it's a 16 MB file which I guess could be the demo. I haven't looked at it, just got the info from a DiskTracker database.

Ah yes -- that's the one. The one I referenced is Strata Vision 3D. You want the one off CD#48.

What's special about the 3.0 version?

It's the last complete version that I have of Strata 3D (not StrataVision, or StrataStudio-pro... the number of different names they used for that same soft is confusing , not to talk about the version numbers...) that I know runs on OS9. Thing is there is not way to register it, servers are down for this version.
There was a trick of using the free version (demo) to register, then get the full version to run, wanted to try. But it still asks the servers, so I'm stuck.

Is there any way to manually inject the serial into the Preferences file? It's where the serial# is stored, apparently.

Dunno... will try looking into that pref file tomorrow.
Should be also possible to register if you have the Strata 3D install disk or iso mounted, but couldn't find one so far.

So which version is the more capable, tech-wise?

Well for you... Strata Vision 3D 4.0 would be the most capable, as it can run on 68k '040 CPU's... Strata 3D 3.0 requires a PPC Mac running Mac OS 9. something and newer.

Moot point, as this one is dead in the water as it demands online activation - on a server that no longer exists.

In which case.. Strata Vision 3D 4.0 would most definitely be the more capable.

Ha, so I am already "top-of-the-line". Laughing out loud

Sounds like this is something to toss in the hacking thread... with the final serial going to the prefs file, it should be relatively easy to run it with MACSBug or cxmon running and reverse the process to figure out what value to put in the prefs file to satisfy the algorithm. For that matter, since it's OS 9, it's possible a static debugger may even be able to find and patch the routine that checks for a reg.

I think I can scratch your itch, Galgot. Installed and working on Mac OS 9.2.2 in Qemu. Reg servers unnecessary. Give me a few days and I’ll upload. (Sadly ... it’s not a demo.) Innocent — [Splash Screen] [GUI]

THANK YOU ! Smile Excellent. And that was fast Smile Wanted to try these very last versions running on OS9. Will try it on a 1Ghz Titanium and a 1Ghz 17" Alu.
Only had v.2.5 working for that previously , some years ago:
