Startup 1.3 with Custom Icons Released!

I'm ecstatic to introduce Startup for Mac OS 7.5, Mac OS 8 and Mac OS 9, the Mac OS startup according to my brain.

Really hope you guys find as much enjoyment in it as I did creating it.

Go check it out: http://macintoshgarden.org/apps/startup/

I really like them! Smile
I bet someone is going to point out that 7.6 is Mac OS and everything below is System ;P

In any case, I will definately be using 7, 8 and 9 startup personally, thank you!

Hi fogWraith!

Glad you like them Smile

Hehe Laughing out loud Also waiting for someone to point out that the screen for OS 6 is pretty much useless.

If some of those drop by the forums, I'll be more than happy to share the original photoshop files. Doing 3 different depth versions each with 2 different sizes for all 4 versions of Mac OS (3*2*4=24) feels quite enough for me this time around.

Personally, I've always preferred the abbreviated SSW used for any Mac OS below 7.5.5 Wink

SSW 6.0.8 is booting up, baby!

Disclaimer: The above mock-up is not a possibility. - SSW 6 and earlier can only display 1 bit mono StartupScreen PICT resources (even with color Macs).
- It requires 7.0 and above for color StartupScreen drop-ins. Smile

Ah yes, the abbreviation works fine as well... and that startup screen looks really nice too Wink

I miss that I could do that with the old OS. Change a couple of Pict resources with ResEdit and you get good Pro-looking customizations. I always did that when making my own discs back in the day so I could see who was using them a mile away.

You can change the startup screen in macOS X as well ... at least the early ones could easily, but I haven't checked with the latest ones.

You can change the startup screen on X as well?!! Damn! Didn’t know that was possible. How do you do that?

It depends a little on which specific version of OS X, but for example: Change Startup Screen in Snow Leopard has some examples of ways which work in at least some versions of OS X.

Hey guys!

Been CRAZY busy with both my medical practice, my web site, and my OS X applications the past half year, so haven't been able to get back to my Mac museum on the west coast just yet - and seemingly won't be able to until closer to summer Sad As such, both Central Control and ScreenShow have been put on hold until then. However, as I'm expecting my second child over the summer, there will be a lot more time spent on the west coast also during the fall Wink

In the mean time, I have a small treat for you: I desperately needed an icon for Startup when publishing it at Mednotes.net, so I just as well went ahead and designed custom icons for all the startup screens of Startup.

Hope some of you still appreciate Classic Mac OS Platinum design icons Wink

Anyways, version 1.3 with fresh custom icons is now ready for download ahead of time here at the Garden:

Enjoy Laughing out loud

Bry!!! You had me wondering if you were okay, man! Glad it was just life hitting you at full throttle Smile

The icons are perfect my friend, plus (pun intended) I got a G4 Mini and Pismo, to do OS9 right Wink

Congrats on your second kiddo too, yay Laughing out loud

Celebrating life's momenta on the run, that's how to do it, lol!

Hi cbone, and hi Bolkonskij! Miss you, guys!

Really appreciate the kind words! SARS-CoV-2 is really killing me these days - FIGURATIVELY SPEAKING! Have now quarantined my family at my parents farm on the west coast AWAY FROM ME, so that I can live in a straight line between my practice and my home, and exclusively focus on treating patients without being a walking biohazard to my loved ones Sad

But, hey, this is what I live for! Laughing out loud

And thanks for the e-mails, cbone! I came, I saw... and that's all I could find time for Sad Sincerely truly sorry about that, dawg! Will write you as soon as time is on my side again!

Take care guys! Stay in touch!

Keep fighting the good fight brother, we're with you in spirit, stay strong and safe my friend!

I'm doing a little to pitch-in by helping others who are having food shortages due to the illness storm that's looming and striking everywhere Sad

Thanks, man! Wonderful to hear that you're helping out those in need! Crazy times! Been nothing like this for 120 years (since 1918). We're basically learning as we go...

PS: Finally got around to send you that e-mail Tongue

Bry, good to hear from you again! Even better that you're still continuing with your works. Good luck on child no. 2!

With one child our family felt like "child with coaching team", but after child no. 2 it felt like a real family. Don't forget to go on parental leave so you can enjoy time with the family ... and have some time to tinker with our Macs Wink

Now going to check out version 1.3 ...
