StarOffice archived for 68k

Hi Folks,

I found StarOffice 3x on the Garden and the page says its 68k+PPC, yet the installer will only run on PPC systems. So I wonder if a frienfly spirit might be so kind to install SO on a PPC and then archive the FAT files into an image and upload that to the Garden for us aging 68k addicts?

Runs on PPC Mac OS's 7.5 to 8.1, after that there are Appearance Manager issues that are unresolved. Classic mode on OS X is no good either.

It's not that the installer will only run on PPC Mac's. While this is true, the installed StarOffice suite contains PPC only apps.

The 68k part, is when they were building the installer, a tiny 68k executable component was added to the install program. So that if someone with a 68k Mac attempted to run the install program, it would nicely inform the user that it can only run on PPC Macintoshes and then it would exit the installer gracefully without crashing itself or the Mac.

It's a shame that this one cannot run on 68k Macs, as it is still quite a good office suite for it's age. A direct ancestor of the OpenOffice and LibreOffice suites.

So the main StarOffice suite progs are PPC only? For the description on the Garden's webpage says that they are 68k capable.

No it does not. It says that NativeChecker reports the architecture as being 68k/PPC.

The reason NativeChecker does this, is due to the presence of the mini 68k app in the installer, as described above...

Technically it's true. It is 68k/PPC, even if the the only 68k part is the mini 68k app in the installer who's sole purpose is to inform you it's not going to work on what you're wanting to install it onto.

What's more, they implanted that mini 68k app into each of the PPC executables of the installed suite:
