SheepShaver crashing upon finishing boot

Hi all,

I'm trying to run SheepShaver on my desktop PC with Windows 7 Home Premium. When I launch the emulator, it boots up fine, but then just after it finishes booting I get an error message simply saying, "A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available." I don't know what the error is, because I know how to view system messages in Windows XP but not in Windows 7. I am using the latest version of the "SheepShaver Package for Windows." Does anyone know what this error is, and if there is a way to fix it or work around it? I've tried everything I can, but it still comes up with that error message every time.

I don't know off-hand, but at E-Maculation on their "Setting up SheepShaver for Windows" page, it says:

Early Crash

If SheepShaver crashes when the Mac OS desktop is about to appear, set the emulator's memory to 512 MB in the SheepShaver GUI or use an old world rom file.

Anyway HTH. - E-Maculation is probably the best place to get support for SheepShaver tho', as they have an active forum and (Cat_7) distributes the current builds for it there.

You're sure installed the recommended GTK +2 runtime?
Cat_7 wrote some time ago:

If the included sheepshaver.exe gives you memory problems on i5 or i7 processors, replace it with the sheepshaver version from the 30-08-2010 download.

Last not least double check your SheepShaver prefs file - or delete it and create a new one.

The one thing I didn't try initially, LOL... I'll try both of those solutions, because that describes exactly when the error occurs on my setup.

@24bit Yes, I did install the recommended version of the GTK+ runtime. Also, forgot to mention in the initial post, my PC doesn't have a Core i5 or i7 processor, it has a Core 2 Quad.

EDIT: Set the emulator's RAM to 512 MB and it worked fine, thanks Mike.

Hi,

I have noticed recently that SheepShaver crashed systematically with a big amount of memory. It was quite normal as the host's system can't run with the residual allocated memory. So, I needed to reconfigure the guest's settings before launching it again naturally...
