Screenshot descriptions

Has anyone else noticed only the first screenshot for each game displays the description text when you click on it? I guess it's not such a big deal, but it's kind of annoying. Could this be fixed, please?

Also, would it be possible to add another category called "Other" or some such? Some games don't really fit into any of the other categories. Just a thought.

I have noticed that about the screenshots. As far as an "Other" category, I'll ask: Have you noticed that game can be put into multiple categories? I believe that's a better solution than having exclusive categories that inevitably leads to a catch-all like you're suggesting.

It wouldn't be an exclusive category, just a category where you put everything that doesn't fit it any of the other categories.

Another thing: why do people add screenshots of the main menu, box art or a picture of the CD for the main screenshot (the one that shows up in the listing)? It's not very useful, especially not the menu Tongue.

Because some of us have a real hard time getting screenshots on our old hardware and do the best we can until someone else with a newer setup has a chance to add their screenshots to the wiki. Wink

I for once like to see the box cover art, including the back of the box and the CD label. That's why thelegacy.de is one of my favorites game museums. It's a shame the Mac community don't have a site as complete as that one to showcase both the real and the digital work behind software.

I guess you're right about the main menu being pointless, but it seems everybody likes it, so I always try to include it. Besides, the main menu usually sports cool artwork.

Sure, box art is nice, but what I'm saying is that a screenshot better represents a game than a picture of its box. So, when a screenshot is available it would be better to have the screenshot at the top of the list of screenshots, because then it shows up in the game list and it's easier for people to get a general idea of what a game's like. Does anyone agree? As I said, it's a trivial thing but I thought I'd share my opinion.

If you want to shift around the screenshot order of this or that game so gameplay appears first and then the cover art and the main menu later, go ahead. I don't think nobody would mind.

Yes, the primary image should illustrate gameplay.

Someone's actually started a Mac version of TheLegacy at maclegacy.org, with over 500 images posted. However, I can't find any contact info on it. They even have some of the titles on our Wanted list...

What's missing is a category like "Open-ended" or "Toys." This would include games where you experiment (Gravitation), create (Gryphon Bricks), destroy (Despair), explore (Cosmic Osmo), or just watch (Gerbils), with no particular goal. Maxis' Sim line (which they called "software toys") could also be tagged with this category.

I like the gameplay screenshots to come first too, it's just that I often can't manage to get one myself. I always just hope someone else with a habit of editing pages will help it along. And in any case, whenever I upload pics, they're always in the archive too.

Thanks for the link, Daxeria. This site looked like it started real good and then it became abandonware itself. I'm going to transfer the box art of the Alone in the Dark series over here because it's impossible to take in-game screenshots of part two and three (right now all they got is the credits screen because that's the only thing I could capture). Hope you understand, Carl.

Edit: Wait, these images are watermarked. Never mind.

I'm glad we all agree, then. I'll move the screenshots around on some games later. Smile
