Problems with (vanishing) QuarkXPress 4.1 guide lines

Hello Folks,

not sure if I am doing something wrong here or if I am just too stupid to see the obvious.
I am working on my book in QXP4.1 (created from a template) and I need to set additional guide lines for the "bleed" margins (for full page images).
Now I can easily enough create new guide lines (those colored in green), by dragging them "out of" the page rulers.
And I can also position them arond the page - but then those extra guides I created just vanish, once I start scrolling the page back & forth or switching to another page.
That same effect happens, no matter where I set up the extra guides - be it in the main body, the cover page(s) or the master pages.

Once I save the document, close and reload it, the extra guide appears shortly and then just vanishes as well.
The guide lines that came with the template are there and stay there.

Does anyone here know what is going on??

It seems to be caused by a QX XTensions - but so far I was unable to figure out which one is making a mess here.

Update: After a long and exhausting(!) search, I found the culprit in the QXP Xtension Pasteboard XT 1.4.
Why for crying out loud that one should interfere with guide lines is beyond me - but outta here it goes!

Update #2: Looks like PasteBox XT was also to blame (only took it a while longer to start messing things up).
Does anyone here have an explanation on why the heck these two should interfere with guide line creation/manipulation?

Perhaps you shouldn't be using Pasteboard XT 1.4 in your QXP 4 documents, as it is an extension for QXP 3.x and it is not optimized for 4.1

Version 1.5.2 and newer was compatible with QXP 4.x

You can get version 2.04 here (Wayback Machine) - if you want to carry on using Pasteboard. The DL says "pasteboard_xt_4.hqx" but expands to reveal version 2.04 of the Pasteboard XT and it is optimized & compatible for QXP 4 - 5

Same link gets you "PasteBoard Fixer XTension" and "PasteBoard XTerminator" which you may (or may not) need to remove 1.4 from documents that you created using Pasteboard XT 1.4 - tho I think the updated XT might do this automatically.

Thx a lot for that link. I knew why I fell in love with the Mac Garden - there is just so much classic geek knowledge hidden in here, that its a real treasure trove Wink

Update: Ooops, was too happy too son. I ran into the old 68k "discrimination trap" - version 2.0.4 only does PPC Sad

Oh that is a pity. I tried to locate version 1.52, which supported both QXP3 and QXP4 and was likely 68k native or FAT at the very least. Unfortunately, I couldn't find this one anywhere.
The Internet Archive has kept pages for it, but, the download links for Pasteboard 1.52 go nowhere.

Thx anyway for trying - the book is making *great* progress. Amazing how much good one can still squeeze out of old, but proven technology Smile
