Performa 6116 pauses continuously for some seconds οn Mac Os 7.6

I have a performa 6116 with sonnet nubus g3 at 500 mhz installed. I have two partitions on my hard drive (4.2 gb is the full capacity). In the one partition i have installed Mac Os 7.6 and on the other Mac Os 8.1. Since last week i have this problem: When i boot the Mac with the os 7.6, the computer continuously pauses for some seconds. This is happening everywhere, in the operating system, in the games etc. I erased the partition with the Mac Os 7.6 and i installed it again. I have the same problem. What can i do? When i boot from Mac Os 8.1 i haven't this problem. Everything runs perfectly.

Try turning AppleTalk off.

^ That sounds like a good idea. If that doesn't work, you can also try turning off all networking, and/or turning off virtual memory...

Yesterday i disabled the appletalk with no luck. I also ran the Mac with the extensions off and again no luck. The last thing i did is to turn on the virtual memory and that worked. I restarted again my mac with the virtual memory off and it worked normally again.
