odd Basilisk II question

i recently downloaded a Basilisk II Mac 68k Emulation Pack from some torrent site. the uploader thoughtfully supplied everything i need to get it up and running (including about 400 old games!). all well and good but i find this emulator to be pretty buggy and it would be way easier (i think) to play them on one of the many old macs i've got laying around. the problem is the games and operating system are bundled together into a huge basilisk-ready 2.8 gig disk image called OS_7.6.1_US.vol which i can't open or mount outside of the emulator. i've never seen a .vol file before. any way i can get these games off it?

So what other Mac kit do you have ?

Anythng with OSX ?

All I can suggest is that you lock the .vol image file, and try and mount it with Toast / Disk Copy / Disk Utility.

hmm, no luck. i'm actually using an intel imac running leopard. i tried locking the file but neither toast or disk utility seems to recognize it as an image file. also the info i've searched on this filetype seems to be scant, vague or too technical for me to understand. anyway, i pm'd the uploader. hopefully, he/she will respond. (it was an ancient torrent post) because i think there are some games in it that macgarden doesn't have

It's not the end of the world.

I have that very same download, from August 2008. Originally came as a 905MB rar file.

In Leopard, change the file suffix from .vol to .img
Then right click and choose to mount with OSX's DiskImageMounter.

Again you might want to lock it before mounting if you don't have a backup, just so it doesn't get updated by accident.

that's great, man-worked perfectly. instant collection, thank you! i'm gonna keep a copy of the .vol file and the emulator in case a lot of these 68k games don't run on my power pc laptops. cheers
