Muso TNT Limited

Muso TNT Limited is a "bulldog" that is sending messages to Mediafire demanding they take down any files that were found to have a link on the Mac Garden on any page that has the text "System 7" on it. I do not know who Muso's client is. I have just received my first dispute with Mediafire over this.

In this particular case, "System 7" was referred to on the Garden as part of the system requirements, and this was enough to get the link to my file caught up in the web of this jerk bulldog's claims to Mediafire.

I may need to remove all links to my files from the Mac Garden. Or, it may already be too late.

"Muso TNT Limited" appears to be targeting Mediafire in a big way.

Searching on that company name gets a ton of hits, mostly regarding music/movie infringements on Mediafire. Its where the name "Muso" comes in, I guess. What I'd really like to know is, what is so special about the term "System 7"?

I really recommend that Mediafire should be dropped as a company worth uploading to or buying any interest in. As I see it, "Muso TNT Limited" says jump and Mediafire jumps as high as it can.

The problem I have is not in using Mediafire, it's the easy access to links that are on this site. I don't have much time right now but I'm starting to remove some links to my files. People will just have to be smart enough to seek out the source and not need links all over the place. It's the links that will enable Muso to bully everyone.

Well its seems to me that you can put anything on mediafire with that focused name that they are targeting and mediafire will take it down....It also seems that with the pricing plan that Muso has they might be trying to meet a quota of sorts to claim rent for that month..

So its all about money and the included free file removals per month?

Step1: Create a big paper tiger threatening your customers.
Step2: Tell them you will save their bacon for a small fee.
Step3: Collect the money.

Someone might do them a favour and upload some files with the names in question accordingly. Smile

Muso is a copyright enforcement agency headquartered in London, England. System 7 is an ambient dance band from London, England.

Ugh, they're not even looking at the files or descriptions, just having their bot issue takedowns wherever a Mediafire link shares a page with the words "System 7". Imagine the carnage if they represented the band "Stars" or the show "House"...

Someone might do them a favour and upload some files with the names in question accordingly.

The filename doesn't even enter into this. Just posting a comment that reads "System 7!" might be enough to trigger the removal of any Mediafire file linked from any page on the internet that accepts comments. Puzzled

Here's yet another Mac site that got hit: http://system608.wordpress.com/2012/03/15/copyright/

Thanks Daxeria, this explains the connection perfectly.

And Mediafire seems to be particularly twitchy. Does explaining the difference to MF have any affect?

Folks, if you plan to enter "xxx 7" into your keyboard, write "Mac OS 7" instead of.

Back in the day, Apple Corp used to abbreviate "System Software 7" to "SSW 7". Perhaps "SSW 7" can also be used instead of the problematic term.

It would be hard to fight the take down without being the actual owner of the copyright for the file. Abandonware is not copyright free. We just hope nobody care.

Has someone received one of those Muso letters for something he created yet?

In a way, even Apple should have an issue with Muso claiming copyright of "System 7".

Yeah, that's a circle around. Apple Corp claimed Apple Computer to not move into music business, but I wonder why Apple Computer not claimed that 'xxx 7' musical band ambient dance band (thanks, Dax) to not use this name, because Apple Computer named the operating system the same.

Got another one for you, Muso is not alone. Seems there are issues with Sierra Alfa Romeo Alfa Hotel too:

MediaFire has received notification under the provisions of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act ("DMCA") that your usage of a file is allegedly infringing on the file creator's copyright protection.

The file named Sarah 8.7a6c2.img.sit is identified by the key (y0kvd4gv18kzugd).

As a result of this notice, pursuant to Section 512(c)(1)(C) of the DMCA, we have suspended access to the file.

Copyright infringement violates MediaFire's Terms of Service. MediaFire accounts that experience multiple incidents of alleged copyright infringement without viable counterclaims may be terminated.

This is utterly ridiculous. How could anybody hold a copyright of the word Sierra Alfa Romeo Alfa Hotel?
Bravo Uniform Lima Lima Sierra Hotel Indiana Tango.

This is just plain stupid...Its clear as day that they are targeting anything with that name of TOUCH...Next they will be targeting files with just letters....A, B, C, D........

As I said, the end. My account at MF is down like many other´s accounts too. (46GB or so I guess)
Lets hope that the rest of us will slip through or backed up files to wired or elsewhere in time.
Sorry for all the dead links, mods and admins. When I started uploading my old stuff, I thought it a good idea to UL only once to MF, hoping that somebody would archive the worthy files in the Garden.
Looking back, a rather silly idea.
Telling from the DL counters some files were taken over 100 times, so I´m confident, everything can be restored in a common effort if needed.

I can't even tell what's going on with this one. The infringement notice mentions "TOUCH (2012)", suggesting Fox's show starring Kiefer Sutherland, but the allegedly infringing link is cited here as an MP3 of "U Can't Touch This" as heard on "The Glee Project" (which is produced by Sony and broadcast by NBC's Oxygen channel).

How a Mac OS beta got caught up in any of this... who even knows. Big Media is now blindly spraying machine gun fire in all directions, trying to make it as painful as possible to use or operate a file hosting site.

The file I have that Muso disputed was restored by Mediafire...after I had to give my name address and email and answer a bunch of questions explaining just why the hell they were wrong. And they didn't really even tell me why it was reported--I had to figure it out myself!

That's why some of us have killed all the "System 7" phrases out of this site.

I think you're right. There must be a large set of keywords and Muso must have free access to searh all files and remove them at the click of a button. MegaUpload offered similar powers to the seven studios who now persecute him - don't know who they are, this was part of his defence in earlier court hearings here, that the studios have been able to remove suspect uploads with the click of a button.
Anyway I suspect that Muso have similar powers. I suspect that they perform regular searches for these keywords, and that they remove everything they find. I also suspect that they rely on the uploader to complain about incorrectly removed material to remove the "false positives", which either they or the file hoster (at a cost to Muso) will replace.
So it becomes our duty (to freedom, democracy and the right to fre speech) to register a complaint over each file incorrectly removed. The cost of putting back, say 80% of the files they remove, will cost more than any revenue they will generate.
It may go so far as those who have had to ask for numerous files to be replaced, with no real copyright material removed, will ask for compensation on a time and materials basis for the effort involved in requesting the files are replaced.

You are certainly right.
Its a bit hard to follow the rule though. First you have to put in your real world name, adress and phone number to submit a counterclaim at MF.
(All right, I know there will be no more privacy with IP6 fully implemented.)
Second, they will kick you off without further notice with the third "Violation of terms of service" so there is nothing to argue about any more.
Meanwhile most of the files should have been backed up to wired or else.

Also, in this site, all of the Publisher and Author are changed for example: "Apple Computer Inc." into "Apple".
