No offense intended Max, but I'm starting to think this would be easier if we just uploaded this directly to the site.

Possibly, thing is I can't fix problems without the cooperation of users - the file downloads fine and extracts fine at my end

I'm happy to upload them to the site at some point, however if you could get me the md5 of the file it would be really really useful as it would tell me if the file is curropt on the server or if it is getting damaged in transit. Even the exact file size (in bytes, the get info window will tell you this) would be helpful

Edit: I'm uploading the files as we speak Smile I would really appreciate it if you could try downloading another disk for me and let me know if it extracts or not

@Max: I DL'd disk 2 via the link given by 3371-Alpha, from here: EXILE_Disc_2.toast.sit

Downloads for me without issue as:

EXILE_Disc_2.toast.sit

MD5 checksum of DL: d7887c1055403a75e97d1e5423c91bfa *EXILE_Disc_2.toast.sit

MD5 checksum extracted: 624173db4e3c2d8888d2984111e6e072 *EXILE Disc 2.toast

Mounts fine.

Hmm, that's interesting. The direct link you provided in your comment works. Maybe the links on the original page need to be edited?

Its a straight copy of the link you provided in post #393, all I did is put it into an href for usability (as with #393). Must be some other issue, but not one that I can see with that FTP link.

The only difference between the link MTT gave and the one on the Myst Exile page is the use of %20 to represent a space. I have tried both and the link behaviour was the same for me. So it looks like experiences will vary.

Odd. I don't see that difference either, i.e.; I see %20 in both links.

mrdav's picture

Hmm...maybe my browser hides the %20 when I look at the link on the page in edit mode. All a bit of a mystery.

EDIT: I see... cntrl click on the link in the page does give %20s whereas the test in the description does not. So the links are rendered the same after all.

Copy Link Location and paste it into a plain text editor, should show you what a link actually looks like.

Alright, it's working finally. I downloaded all 4 disks & my os says there all readable. Thanks.
I know this is more for the requests page but you wouldn't happen to have the osx native version, would you?

Glad to hear it is working Smile
I suspect is was just a one off corruption of the files during transfer, it happens sometimes

There is a link on the myst page for a patch to make it OSX compatible

Hi max1zzz; good see you're up and going! A little problem though is my UL folder is inaccessible. My guess is my nick on the folder and the change of file system is bugging it up. There's or should be some stuff in the folder so am wondering if you could remove the apple from it?

Is that inaccessible as in you can't even view the contents? It may very well be that Apple that is the problem, I'll remove it later

I've come across a strange twist... I can log in and see the directories just fine using Transmit 1.7 on my Power Mac 5400 using 8.1. However, on my eMac with 9.2.2, I can't get in. It seems to log me in, but then never lists any files. I tried downloading Fetch 4.0.3 as an alternative, but that doesn't work either. Here's the transcript from Fetch, though, if it helps:

And with that, it tells me the connection timed out.

hmm, can you post the transcript from the 5400 so I can compare them?

Interestingly the passive mode command is using the internal address of the server, Not sure If that might be causing the problem

I tried using Fetch 4.0.3 on the 5400 and ran into the same problem. But Transmit works on the 5400. Here's the transcript from Transmit on the 5400:

Passive mode *should* work, just the server is returning a incorrect ip. I have contacted the developers of Rumpus, Will let you know when I have it sorted

And now it works fine Smile tweaked a couple of settings on advice of the developers of Rumpus and it now returns the external address rather than the internal one

A bonus is that your latest tweak has eliminated the problem many browsers had downloading the files you host that used to be on RapidShare (e.g. Myst Exile)

Don't suppose anyone has a copy of the source for wired server 1.3.4?

Zankasoftware's site is long gone and internet archive dosen't have the actual file saved. It's been a long time since I have needed to build it from source and I don't have a copy saved anywhere

Edit: Nevemind, Found it on Github

For those few users who use it, Wired should be back up Smile

Please report any problems to me - A lot of this setup is quite new to me so there are plenty of things I could have broken along the way....

I looked at hotline a few years ago (I say a few, it was about 5 years ago.....) but I couldn't get it to play nice. Maybe i'll have another look at it now

FTP and HTTP are offline until further notice. A bug in the FTP software is causing it to use so much CPU power it is pushing the server right to the point of crashing (It was so bad today the remote desktop software couldn't even update the screen). Awaiting a response from the software developers.

(this isn't the first time I have had this problem BTW)

Bad news Max, sorry to hear about the server issues.
For me wired is the way to go as you know. Too bad there seems to be no working client for Windows.
Thanks for your time and labor making all the old Mac items available.
As the possible file size for MacGarden is some GB now, we could think about moving items to the internal server if we find the time.

Just updated the software, seems ok now, fingers crossed the bug has been fixed in this build Smile

By all means copy stuff to the internal server, the more copys of the data the better Smile I would do it but I just don't have the time these days.....

Looks like the devs might have figured out the problem, seems there is something in the speed cap which was causing the problem. Disabled it and it's looking good.

So for the moment all speed caps are disabled. The server is currently pushing out data at 18mbp/s, which isn't bad when our broadband's cap is 20mbps Smile

And just heard back from the developers, The bug should hopefully be fixed in the next version of the software, Guess you guys will have to live without any speed restrictions for now Smile

Hey Max,

I'm trying to connect to your KDX server and I'm getting an error just saying it can't connect. I'm using Haxial KDX 1.600 which has always worked fine for me and is working fine now with other servers.

Any suggestions I would appreciate. Your web-based client works fine, it's just I prefer KDX to HTTP or FTP.

Thanks so much!

I discontinued the KDX server a while ago unfortunately (just wasn't getting any users, also wasn't compatible with osx server running on a intel box) I can have a look at getting it running again though, as now I am using a windows box it should work

Max,
Thanks for the reply man. I totally understand where your coming from about compat issues. I can use another of your entry points. I don't want you to put yourself out setting it back up, especially if it wasn't getting many users. So don't sweat it man, I can still access your massive archive by other means which is all I care about. I'll likely use FTP, there's nothing wrong with that at all.

Thanks for providing all these treasures to the community.

Bad news, The software devs have fixed the software bug that was causing rumpus to use 100% of the servers CPU while speed limits where enforced. The mg and mr accounts now have 100kb/s download speed limits again.

The good news is that this build has really improved CPU usage overall, it has gone from using anywhere before 8% and 30% of the cpu under normal usage to 0.1% - 0.3%!

Server May be offline for a few days, I'm thinking of moving back to OSX server (I just can't get some internal networking services (aka file sharing) to play nice on windows server) and it looks like people have had some success with installing newer versions of Mac OS X onto Dell T20's

Hi max1zzz,

I hope that perhaps u enjoy our new page for Mac OS X Server. Smile Unfortunately, fogWraith has uploaded an image, but the link to the mirror in the States doesn't works. May be u could inform him or an another admin.

Cheers,

The US mirror synchs once or twice per day, so it takes a bit before any mirror links will actually work if the download is larger.

A T20 looks like a very capable machine.

Yeah the T20 is a very nice machine indeed, It's also very reasonably priced, I paid £219 for the Quad Core Xeon Model with 4GB of ram and a 1TB HDD Smile (Well, it was £299 with £80 cashback from Dell)
The only thing I can fault it on is the use of non-registered unbuffered ECC ram, which although cheaper than it's registered brother when your buying it new, is pretty much impossible to find used (where as registered ECC sticks can be picked up for pence used online).

I am slowly getting things back online, The site is back up, The main archive has been migrated (the majority of files linked from pages on here will still not work as that data had not been migrated)

I will also be adding HTTPS / FTPS support for those that would like to use it

Hi Max,

Is KDX offline?

max1zzz's picture

Yeah I dropped KDX a while ago as there weren't enough users (And it would have been problematic to get it running on newer versions of OSX)
If there is enough interest I could look at bringing it back though
