i think your server is behind some kind of network router.
from my perspective..PASSIVE/ACTIVE network address translation (NAT) is the root of this problem

im not familiar with "Wired" or "kdx" i have absolutely no idea what you are referring to..

you are absolutely right, my server is behind a router, we are on a home setup here.
I just double checked the port fowardings through the router to the server and they are correct, so that is not the root of the problem

the only change my network has had recently is that i reset my switch to defaults yesterday, but i didn't have any settings (apart from labels on some of the ports) set so that shouldn't be the problem.

as for wired and kdx, Google wired client and kdx client. my site has downloads for the wired client on the links page (max1zzz.co.uk/links.html).

i think the problem is because i am also in a similar situation here, + the network address translation problem is a result of that.. so its going thru and tcp/ip translating twice.. resulting in some type of routing error. ie: if i was to plug directly into my modem and disable all router functions i could probably access ur ftp no problem...bah my head hurts thinking about it i have too many other things on my mind to troubleshoot the cause of that problem:D but i wish that i could snap my fingers and solve it coz i can guarantee if its happenijng to me its going to happen to another poor mac enthusiast..

anyway im real happy i just installed os9 onto a new partition from the os9general.dmg file.. and im starting up wow this setup assistant is ANtIQUATED... lol its so the PRE-osx precursor.. everything the same slightly different + oh so 2000-2001 looking:) design wise.. lol
im just waiting now as it says "Rebuilding desktop file" or some crap like that;) anyway.. im running it off a IDE hard drive now but it may be the laast one that i have and they are all old and starting to act up which is why i need to get more sata adapters but i cant afford to pay 80$ a peice for the stupid adapater when i paid 35$ for the whole mdd dp 867 LOL

Yeah, i should have a email button at the top right of all my posts
there is a thread on 68kmla that has all the info on modding the cards to work in macs (you will need to change the flash chip, the seritek 3112 firmware actually checks the flash it of the chip, if it is not one of 3 they used the firmware just won't work)

btw, i ended up using sil3512 cards in the xserve as they are less picky (both in compatibility, and in the modding process)

Unfortunately if nat is the problem there is noting i can do about it, since the server also runs several internal network services (e.g time machine backups) i will not risk putting it in a DMZ.
Try downloading something i host directly from my http server (anything from files.max1zzz.co.uk) like one of the wired clients from my site and see if you get better luck, i would be interested to know if that works

What about this: http://zankasoftware.com/dist/
You want wriedclient-latest - wire is a Linux terminal app.

can i ask, what kind of not working? just not working could be a hole tonne of different errors (permission denied, file not found, time outs, host not found / rechable etc etc)

EDIT: did you click on the links and get a mediafire page? just had a look at the links page and when i changed the links i never thought to check that they actually where hyperlinked to the right place... fixed now

ok right "email" link.. very obvious;) hehehe too obvious for me to figure out obviously lol

re: the wired links, the mediafire links are shown on page 1 of this thread aswell... if this thread is indeed going to be the neverending thread maybe u should update the links there aswell or simply point to your site where all the links are good that way u update once and all is well;) sorry to be pointing out all of your mistakes lol

Will update the links in a bit

hey max so what kind of speed increase did u see on using sata over pci on the sawtooth machine?
i theorized that this would be a bigger increase on the sawtooth compared to an mdd as the mdd internal bus is already ata100.. and the sawtooths is ata66.... the drive speed on my sawtooth is always a piss off when i click finder. it always takes like 2-3sec to load up the contents of a folder.. or perhaps thast coming out of sleep.. anyway the disk speed is abit too slow for my liking.. so i took my only tempo sata card out of my mdd and im going to put it in my sawtooth.. but ideally id like to have both my mdd + my sawtooth running off SATA.. i had bought 2 64mb corsair SSDs for these machines on sale back at xmas time.. last january...

well i never really used the card in my sawtooth much, it is currently in my B/W G3, i would say it is faster, but not hugely

I do have a comparison benchmark somewhere, i'll dig it up later

Just found a bug in the ftp software meaning around half of the accounts may have been showing a blank directory listing.

I have reported this to crush ftp support, hopefully it should get fixed in the next few days.

All full accounts have been fixed, i will sort the self registered ones later.

Server will be on and off over the next couple of weeks, I am reordering the server hardware
All the external disks (there are 5 of them, soon to be more) are being consolidated into one enclosure, and the Xserve it's self is being moved to elsewhere in the house, where there is more space and the opportunity to get it installed in a proper rack

server is 3 years old today, so you know what that means? No speed limits for 24 hours, starting midnight tonight Smile

Edit: I have removed the speed limit, however users may need to restart their transfers to see the difference

Thanks for remove the speed limit for 24 hours. I want to warn that the files "Mac OS Anthology '00 Disk 2.iso.sit", "Mac OS Anthology '00 Disk 3.iso.sit" and "Mac OS Anthology '00 Disk 4.iso.sit" in the "/*|Mac OS Classic/-|Apple disks|-/Mac OS Anthology 2000 & 2001 Edition" folder are corrupted and don't decompress well.

Hrmf, i have had that reported before and could never get to the bottom of it.
I will recompress the set using RAR

Send me a email and i'll sort you out with a full speed download of it (it will take me a couple of days, this is not me being difficult, i have a hell of a lot of work i need to do for collage)

Server will be down at somepoint this week / next weekend, finally found a suitable rack for the xserve at a decent price

Although the installing the server in the rack is easy, there is a lot of prep for it

Nice addition, waiting for pics as the server got a decent encasement.

As for the Anthology 00/01 all files were fine when I took them with wired.
So it can't hardly be the files...

Yeah, will post some pics when everything is set up

the files are not actually corrupt, but for some reason some people just can't decompress them, so it's better to compress them as RAR as most people will be able to decompress them then

or the server may not be down, turns out it wasn't in stock, and the next thing up that is deep enough for the xserve is £180....

Anyone have any idea where i can get one of these racks cheap in the uk? (needs to be at least 800mm deep, and between 12 and 20u high (might be able to go up to 24u)

Was hopeing i cold find one for less than £150, looks like that gonna be hard, will just have to wait for a bit...

Picked up a 12u rack for the server, for the grand sum of £32 Wink

this means i have the money to pick up some other bits and pieces i wanted for the setup Wink

depending on the shipping time the server may or may not be down for a day at the weekend

and we are back,
Here's a pic of the setup (sorry for the poor quality, will try to find a better camera later)

There will be more in the rack in the future so that switch isn't as oversized as it seems now

I'm looking for Mac OS 9.2.2 for the 2003 MDD G4 1.25 GHZ machine. So I went to the max1zzz server per a mention in another message.

The website listed access instructions but whatever I tried produced various error messages (and no access of course).

How do I access this server to download the CD images?

Gary

just login using the user / password mg / mg (or mr / mr)

What is the error exactly?

If I enter:
http://www.max1zzz.co.uk:21/

I get "This web page is not available"

If I enter:
http://www.max1zzz.co.uk:1500/

I get "No data received"

In looking through your entire website I see absolutely NO place to enter a username and/or password.

try:

ftp://www.max1zzz.co.uk/

Using a decent modern browser, you should get a pop-up asking for User/Pass...

I'm using the Chrome browser (latest version)? Is that modern enough?

yeah what themacmeister said should work

or use http://max1zzz.co.uk:8000/

port 21 is ftp so would need ftp:// not ttp:// and port 1500 is wired, which you would need to download and use wired client for

This turned out to be the "magic bullet":
ftp://www.max1zzz.co.uk/

The popup appeared. I was able to log in and look around. I checked out the Mac OS 9.2.2 files but I couldn't identify the correct one for my particular machine. Should I download all of them?

A Merry Christmas & happy new year to all of you Wink
There will be the customary freeleach for a few days over Christmas
After this i'll be raising the public accounts speed cap, haven't decided by how much, but it will be atleast twice what it is now

And if anyone wants free hosting for files to be posted to this site let me know and i'll set you up with something (with no download speed limits, separate from my main server)

yeah, we aren't in any of the flooding zones or anything, just the power keeps dropping out
hopefully it should be back for good later today

if your trying to connect, use the dyndns address (classic-mac.dyndns-ip.com or max1zzz-mac.dyndns.org) as they will update themselves when the power goes back on

Upcomeing server migration:
I just picked up a Xserve G5 Wink single 2ghz (will add a second 2ghz once it's up and running) with 4gb of ram and 3 x 320gb sata drives (as well as a fiber channel card and some kind of sata / sas card)

I needed a server that used sata, as i need to add some big drives to it (at least 2 x 2tb's), why? well, you'll see in jan Wink

May i ask which model exactly? I have an Xserve G5 which had an 80 GB disk and decided to upgrade it to a 500GB hard disk and guess what.. it didn't like it. Impossible to boot from it. It formats ok, you can install the OS ok, but no go. The next smaller disk i tried was exactly a 320GB one and that was ok. The machine seems to have issues with big hard drives. Mine is a dual 2.3GHz, RackMac 3,1. Is the sata/sas card the apple one? Maybe your xserve has the xserve raid card, but then again, i don't remember if that card supported sas.

tbh i'm not sure, wasn't listed
However i was planning to stick with one of the 320gb's as a boot drive (or maybe even swap it to a smaller drive - the boot only needs to hold the os and my site, all the data is on separate drives)

this is what i brought: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/111245876717
