MachTen?

I remember, that there was an UNIX-subsystem for classic Mac OS'es, does anybody know - is it abandonware and is it possible to get it form somewhere?

It can't run on anything newer than a G4 yet they are selling it for $99. Unbelievable!

@MacWise:

Maybe, but the guy who's working on Classilla says it's well worth the $100.

@Balrog:

I hope he is not a close friend of yours, because all the brainpower he is putting into computing has left him dumb for everything else.

MachTen was made about 10 years ago, I think it should be abandonware...

@MacWise I didn't know Classilla and only got it know right now, but it appears to be a great project and I'm glad there are still people out there willing to invest their free time into programming / adapting software for classic Macintoshs. Anything we should know of - why is he "dumb"?

@megabyte: Unfortunately it's still sold.

@MacWise: I wouldn't call him "dumb," only he has way too much free time. He's actually pretty smart. (Though he's not a close friend of mine)

@Balrog and Bolkonskij:

When it comes to software the rules of collecting don't apply. The value of software doesn't depend on its uniqueness as regular collector's items do but rather on how current it is. Once development ceases software loses its value almost overnight. That's why I say our good friend the Classilla developer is dumb for everything except computing. He is so biased he doesn't realize he paid $99 for abandonware. He's a dumb smart guy.

I have a copy of MachTen, used it on 68030 machines... so may not be native ppc Sad

Also, is a very old version (4?)

From what I used of it, it seems like a unix shell running on top of MacOS.
