IMGs

Does anybody know a program that makes IMG archives in system 6. Disc copy on os 9.0.4 as demonstrated in sheepshaver works to make images. But that was 6.3.3. from my 9 cd. And 6.4 beta from here also works. Problems is those don't work in system 6. Minivmac says 6.3.3. requires 7.0.1 and 6.4 says program may be damaged. Trying to restore my original SE FD/HD. Found disk copy 4.2 online as well. But litrally just copys disks and doesn't make img files. Maybe they had 5 or something inbetween 4.2 and 6.3.3. But not seeing it. Or is there anything else to make imgs in system 6.

Thanks.

I can't say anything on System 6, but on 7 with DiskCopy 4, once you "Read Master Disk", an option to save the image becomes available in the File menu.

Well I'm trying it in mini vmac. It says no master disk is read yet. Dragging the img of a floppy disk on top of the window does not work. So how do you read a aster floppy disk.

I'm able to mount and read in floppy disk image files in Disk Copy 4.2 on Mini vMac and save those images to disk while running SSW 6.0.8. The image files have to be of actual floppy disk media 800k & 1.4 MB. But I don't have any way of writing these back to an actual floppy disk drive from Mini vMac. And Disk Copy 4.2 will not mount images either.

Another disk image program that works in System 6 is DiskDup+. I use version 2.7, I don't know if later versions will work in System 6. Registered versions will mount disk images but again the media it deals with must be floppy disk (400k to 1.4MB). Although this is the only way to mount floppy disk images from within a running System 6 that I know of.

Actually doesn't amtter. Tried it on the SE. Was able to read master disk. But it spits out and says not enough memory to work with that size disk. Is there a way to format a floppy disk 400k instead of 1.44mb in mac??

Actually you can using winimage. Works great. I didn't have a usb floppy. But me and my mom both have internal floppy XP and 7. so this was life saver and saved my 20 busks from buying a usb floppy.

And I Just found out it works both ways. Put floppy in and say read disk. Then save as IMA file and save to desktop. Then when you need again you can burn to floppy just like the first time. And no resource fork lost. Just tried it and it works. Winimage is a neat little program.
