ilife Disc problem

I bought a copy of iLife '11 on DVD. It is intended to be used with Mac X v10.6 and later.

But I put the disc into my reader (Mac OS 9.2.2) anyway to see what I could see.

The disc would not mount. Finder asked me if I wanted to initialize it.

The same DVD mounts just fine using 10.6 or later.

What is preventing me from viewing the DVD with 9.2.2? And is there any way to fix that?

Just a guess. Does your OS9 machine only have a CD ROM?

I have both a CDROM drive and an external DVD drive. The symptom I usually get when I put a DVD into the CD drive is a hung system that eventually spits the DVD out.

iLife '11 is dual-layer DVD...

Do you have a Dual-Layer DVD drive?

What do you hope to accomplish using the OS X only DVD under MacOS 9.2.2 ??

You could image the entire DVD under Mac OS X, and then mount it under 9.2.2 ??!!

My external DVD drive is dual layer.

I was mostly curious about what was on the disc and to see if I could copy it to my hard drive.

DVD is a dual-layer format.
All DVD drives should be capable of reading 'dual-layer' 'DVD-9'.
No drive is limited to single-layer DVD-ROM.
Dual-layer compatibility concerns recordable / writable disc.
Some drive are limited to writing / recording single-layer disc. (Such drive CAN READ dual-layer pressed disc.)

A drive which cannot read a pressed dual-layer disc, is in disrepair or needs maintenance. Perhaps cleaning, perhaps focus adjusting, perhaps a kaput laser.

Everything on the disk is in Intel language so nothing would be executable on a PPC machine that runs 9.2.2
