Ikarus M

Hi there.

I'm searching for Ikarus M, the ancient font editor. It's very hard to find.
Ikarus had a quiet long history beginning in 1976 and involving many operating systems.
I would be very happy to explore a version for 68k, but anything else for PPC or macos X would be fine too, of course.

Thank you.

From some cursory research, it seems that DTL FontTools from Fontmaster (www.fontmaster.nl) uses the Ikarus format, at least according to Wikipedia. They have been active since "the second half of the 1990s", although they acknowledge the history of the technology going back to the 70s. It is available for macOS.

There don't seem to be any relevant results regarding early Macintosh software that utilized the format, at least not that I can find in a few minutes of Googling!

Yes, that's how I felt and I did a lot of (google-)research. The DTL FontTools can open old Ikarus files, but i'm looking for the application itself. Of course less, to do serious work with it, but rather to trace the history of type design and out of curiosity Smile
For people who are interested: With Fontographer there is another good application for 68k and PPC available.

There is a Demo of Ikarus M on Disc1 from this page. It is a Japanese disc and many folder names are difficult to identify. However, if you view the CD contents in list mode, the relevant folder containing the demo is the 6th from the top

I went ahead and extracted the application from the compilation linked by mrdav and created a page for it. Enjoy!
