How do I Open Quest For Glory 1 ?

I download QfG1 from this site.
I unpacked the file, quest_for_glory.sit, into "Quest for Glory.image".
I failed to mount, extract or open the image file.
I tried using Basilisk II+OS7.5.5, SheepShaver+OS9, Disk Copy, Gemulator Explorer and HFVExplorer.
I tried renaming the file extension to DSK, IMG, HFV.
Everything I tried failed.
Can someone please tell me how pry open this game?
Thanks in advance,
Omer Mor.

Just DL'd to test. This Disk Copy 6.1.x image file appears to be a compressed Disk Copy image file. If you have been attempting to mount this image file by dragging it onto an emulators window or similar action to mount the image as a disk it will likely not work using this method. These emulators don't like this compressed format of image file for direct mounting.

It will mount if you 1st get the ".sit" file onto your emulator's hard drive, then unStuff the ".sit" file. Then open the image file with Disk Copy 6.1.2 (usually 6.2 or 6.3) or newer from within the emulator to mount the disk image file.

I had no trouble mounting it this way running Basilisk II.

I copied the .sit file to my emulator's hard drive.
I unStuffed it and got the .image file.
I opened up Disk Copy 6.3, which opens a window that waits for me to drag onto it an image file.
When I drag the QfG image file, it tries to load it and says:
"The Mount Image operation did no complete. (-8816) The file "Quest for Glory.image" does not have a recognized file type."

@OmerMor:

Perhaps I have this mixed up with something else. Just to check: do you meant the game from this page: http://www.macintoshgarden.org/games/quest-glory-so-you-want-be-a-hero

The DL's file name "quest_for_glory.sit" and the extracted "Quest for Glory.image" match your description.

And if it is, then there is something wrong with your DL (or how you extracted it) if you are getting that error message from Disk Copy 6.3

The DL file "quest_for_glory.sit" has an MD5 checksum: 6b54f23c1082de6b1ea9f92c728db7eb
Extracted, the file: "Quest for Glory.image" has a Disk Copy 6.1.x NDIF icon. Getting info on the icon the Finder reports a CRC checksum of $01E94927 and that it is Mac OS HFS 8572K in size.

I am able to double-click this image to launch Disk Copy 6.3 and it mounts immediately onto the desk top.

Because you get that particular Disk Copy error message (and assuming that the file that you are trying to use is the same as what I tested), I can be fairly certain that your extraction or DL has failed somewhere along the line. Easiest check to make here is to "Get Info" on the extracted ".image" file, if you do not see the "CRC: $01E94927" or "Mac OS HFS 8572K image" somewhere in the Get Info window, then there is something wrong with your DL (or extraction).

It worked for me as well. Aside from the 1999 Desktop DB and Desktop DF files that are present in the image (the original game is 1994) this looks like a good image.

Here's what I did:

1) Unstuffed in OSX, using Stuffit Expander 14
2) Copied image into UNIX folder in Basilisk
3) Launch Basilisk and copy the .image onto HD (make sure you are copying the .image; you should see the "copy" window appear)
4) Launch DC 6.3.3, drag .image into window. It verified and mounted.

My guess is that you have managed to unstuff the .image file but perhaps the .image got corrupted in the process. Try using the latest version of Stuffit Expander like I did.

If that doesn't work, try downloading another copy of QFG and follow my procedure above.
