I recently gained access to an Epson Perfection 1650 scanner to use for film scanning. I downloaded the CD from this site and I was wondering if the included software had provisions for film scanning and what software people would recommend for use for film scanning. Preferably I would be able to scan the entire strip and it would automatically split them up for me.

I have a huge collection of 35mm film (negatives and slides) dating from 1966. I wanted to digitize them all.
I have a Umax document scanner capable of 4096 pixel resolution.
I tried to scan a strip of 5 color negatives (using the correct transparency light source). The results were awful.
I experimented with many settings (both software and hardware) but the scanner just wasn't capable of scanning film.
I bought a Microtek film scanner but it failed. Microtek told me to just buy another one since they don't attempt to repair them.
I bought a Nikon film scanner instead and the results were astonishing. I've since scanned my entire collection using the software that Nikon included with the scanner. The software did everything you could ask for nicely.

I doubt it. The scanner is a VERY specific piece of hardware. It connects via Firewire and won't function until it detects the scanner on the Firewire cable.
The scanner detects the type of film being scanned, how many images are on the strip and whether the film is color or black & white.
The scanning sequence is a multi-pass operation.

You need SilverFast. It works with just about any scanner or TWAIN device. It may take me awhile, but I think I have an old version in storage somewhere that I will upload if I can find it.

You don't say what OS version, but you could try VueScan 7.6.64. The webpage for the current OS X version does list the Epson Perfection 1650, but I'm not sure about the old Classic version on here.
Sidenote: According to the VueScan website:
Epson sold this scanner in some countries as the GT-8200U.
So if doing searches you may want to include that name.
