Looks like there are a lot of duplicates (especially in the "Mac OS 7.x" area). Could people post info about those here, and which pages specifically should be deleted? Space is VERY limited.
Edit: Changed 'xxx 7' to 'Mac OS 7' - IIGS User
That entry does not mention having the other versions, so the reader doesn't know that other version are included. How do you find MacWrite Pro, or 5.0, etc. if there's no text to tell the search engine or user that they're in there? (-:
Something like "Includes: MacWrite 1.0, 1.1, 4.0, 5.0, MacWrite II 1.0.3, and MacWrite Pro 1.2" would be helpful. (Note that I made that list from imaginary data, since I don't know what's actually in the archive yet.)
This is sort of a borderline case, but this game:
Air Hockey
http://macintoshgarden.org/games/air-hockey
...is nearly identical to:
Shufflepuck Cafe
http://macintoshgarden.org/games/shufflepuck-cafe
The only apparent difference is the name. (I'm not just talking about the game file, but the name embedded in the game's about box, for instance.)
The author, version, menus and all of the interface is exactly the same. I guess it's possible there some differences in the internal physics, but that does not seem probable.
That's interesting ... if they ARE the same, maybe they could be merged. (There are enough differences to merit the preservation of both.)
Just a suggestion, on the subject of avoiding duplicates:
I have a few large archives of my old games and utilities to trawl through looking for new stuff to upload. But going through each title, searching the Macintosh Garden site (using the rather good "Search" bar you have) is an onerous task. I tried it a few weeks ago, after 4 hours I don't think I even got out of the "A"s on the first archive.
What would really help is a download of all the titles (games and apps) currently uploaded, perhaps CSV format, with as much other detail as you think appropriate, ie, publisher, year, size. This would let me pull it into a FileMaker / MySQL / Oracle database, along with a list of what I have in the archives, and easily highlight what is suitable for upload.
Needed one time only, I'd keep watch on the tracker page for new titles uploaded by others and chalk them off (but if you produced it regularly, or on the fly, all the better). I did this with the retromac hotline server, made it infinitely easier to submit stuff.
@bertyboy:
See http://macintoshgarden.org/apps_one_page for apps, and http://macintoshgarden.org/games_one_page for games. There are six pages of 200 games each, and I can't fit all 1200 on one page!
Gearheads
F-A-18 Hornet 2.0
@toprak:
One is a CD image; the other is the folder with some extra content. Maybe someone could combine the two (put the extra content in a sit and add the sit to the cd image zip archive)?
Sometimes the find feature doesn't find it, I believe.
I deleted the newer one, thanks.
g3 throttle
( if they are slightly different somehow, i think it's still better to compress them in one folder under one page, since the app. is so tiny)
If the search function is not finding it, that means it hasn't been indexed yet. Indexing takes place every hour.
When uploading games, maybe we could implement a feature which check whether an entry of the same name already exist. Whether the uploader want to create an entry with the same title then.
Great idea IIGS User, but do you know how to code it in php? Because apparently drupal don't have that option.
Note: drupal is the content management platform used on this site. More info at http://drupal.org/
No idea how to.
New version uploaded within the same file so this became a duplicate:
http://macintoshgarden.org/apps/netscape-navigator-30-standard-edition
Added/merged to that page. Left 3.0 version in place, as some might prefer the installer type as opposed to 3.01 non-install type
Thanks, MikeTomTom, sticked now.
Freehand 8 fixed.
Eight Ball Deluxe and 8-Ball Deluxe. The Eight Ball Deluxe game link is broken & long gone (needs removing).
Also; The "Virtual Game Station" page mentioned above in Daxeria's post needs to be deleted, as the "Connectix Virtual Game Station" page is the more complete (and the MF link from the former is merged into the Connectix VGS page).
"Steinberg Nuendo 1.5.2" This page must be removed as it is virus infected (666). It is also a duplicate. There is a better virus clean copy of the same version located here.
Thanks, Nuendo has been cleaned.
Good, thank you.
Now I can change subject page name " Steinberg Nuendo 1.x" to "Steinberg Nuendo 1.5.2" so don't be too surprised when you see this name re-appear again
Must do this because both DL's on the "Steinberg Nuendo 1.x" page contain exactly the same versions and installers. Both have different version filenames as downloads, but inside is only version 1.5.2. One file has two additional pdf docs, making up the difference in file size.
In effect, a duplicate on the same page which I will remove one of, leaving the one with added PDFs.
steinberg_nuendo_1.52.sit
9811efe9570a703a9fa283ebca37e1af 14417K, *Install Nuendo 1_52
841e95ed5e320fcbc1a7e84d0e45ba65 8834K, *Nuendo 1.52[k]
nuendo1.6.hqx
9811efe9570a703a9fa283ebca37e1af 14417K, *Nuendo1.52 for mac Install
841e95ed5e320fcbc1a7e84d0e45ba65 8834K, *Nuendo 1.52[k]
The main content of each file on same page & checksums match (there is no 1.6 in the "nuendo1.6.hqx" archive).
Thanks again for cleaning up.
Consensus (of two) has it, that:
"Draw it again, Sam..." is the poorer duplicate of:
Draw It Again Sam and so this latter page should be preserved.
Toast 3 and Adaptec Toast 3.5.5. The first one contains toast 3.5.7 preinstalled and a toast image from 3.5 that i uploaded some time ago. The other one has a Toast 3.5.5 image with extensive information. Sometimes is nice to have a preinstalled copy for quick access, and the second toast image is a version higher than mine. It would be nice to try to merge the uploads. In any case i am pretty sure i have the updater to 3.5.7 somewhere, i can upload it to make the remaining page complete, assuming one of them is deleted.
Hi macjames, why not upload the updater anyway? It might be a long time before the pages get merged.
You're right. Will do. Done.
The recent photoshop duplicate includes a manual which i don't know if it's contained in the original old upload. Maybe that's worth saving before deleting the duplicates.
@macjames: if you mean by manual, a MS Word document? Then yes, the older original upload contains this too. The duplicated uploads are likely from the same source.
Yep, a word document. Good to know it's in the original upload. Thanks for the info.
@macjames: I've added the manual (printed to PDF from the Word original) to the earlier Photoshop 063 page as well. It make for an easier read across platforms.
macintosh system software 7.1. This page has incomplete installer software for SSW 7.1 and is a duplicate (there is already a better 7.1 page here).
I think The ClueFinders 6th Grade Adventures
is the same title as ClueFinders: Empire of the Plant People
except that the first is a Mac-only image whereas the second is a hybrid.
Merged chessworks 3.0.2 into chessworks 3 page
Thanks.
http://macintoshgarden.org/games/the-cluefinders-6th-grade-adventures
http://macintoshgarden.org/games/cluefinders-empire-of-the-plant-people
I'd suggest keeping the 6th Grade Adventures title, to keep consistency with the other games in the series.
Also, if there's a way to move the upload labeled as disc 2 of the German version of Math Adventures into the page for Real World Adventure Kit, that'd probably be good. The Adventure Kit was a bonus disc that was included with all of the main ClueFinders titles (3rd/4th/5th/6th Grades, Math, and Search & Solve).
Adobe Illustrator 9 - This entry has been here for 2 years, has external DL's only. Tested still working (MF). Full install set with updates to vers. 9.0.2 - a 72MB archive
Adobe Illustrator 9 - This one's been here for about a week. Archived locally but incomplete - all external (from the installed folder, System fonts and libs missing). Its a preinstalled copy of version 9.0, US English.
Merge preinstalled copy into older Illustrator 9 page, or remove this incomplete entry?
[Edit] Removed entry and uploaded internally
Illustrator 9, I think: removing the new one, internally archiving the first entry.
http://macintoshgarden.org/apps/itunes-204-german
should be merged into
http://macintoshgarden.org/apps/itunes-204
which already has English, French and Italian Installers
iTunes - done.
I found 3 "PlayerPro" not the same vertion but i think they should be merge here:
http://macintoshgarden.org/apps/playerpro-4-fat
http://macintoshgarden.org/apps/playerpro-5
http://macintoshgarden.org/apps/player-pro-59
[Edit by MTT] Removed duplicate page; same file is on /apps/playerpro-5 page
PlayerPro, both the 5.x ones, yes. The 4 one could stay separate. There are also different architectures on them.
"AppleCD 600e Bootable CD-ROM"
http://macintoshgarden.org/apps/applecd-600e-bootable-cd-rom
by Fortuna Wave
"AppleCD 600e CD-ROM Software"
http://macintoshgarden.org/apps/applecd-600e-cd-rom-software
by Mrdav
"AppleCD 600e Bootable CD-ROM" ... "AppleCD 600e CD-ROM Software"
Merge perhaps? FW's is bootable International English & mrdav's is bootable US English OS's, both are same versions otherwise - SSW 7.5 + Update 1.0 & CD-ROM software 5.0.4
