Duplicates

Please post any duplicates here. I will make sure they're taken care of.

Looks like there are a lot of duplicates (especially in the "Mac OS 7.x" area). Could people post info about those here, and which pages specifically should be deleted? Space is VERY limited.

Edit: Changed 'xxx 7' to 'Mac OS 7' - IIGS User

That entry does not mention having the other versions, so the reader doesn't know that other version are included. How do you find MacWrite Pro, or 5.0, etc. if there's no text to tell the search engine or user that they're in there? (-:

Something like "Includes: MacWrite 1.0, 1.1, 4.0, 5.0, MacWrite II 1.0.3, and MacWrite Pro 1.2" would be helpful. (Note that I made that list from imaginary data, since I don't know what's actually in the archive yet.)

This is sort of a borderline case, but this game:

Air Hockey
http://macintoshgarden.org/games/air-hockey

...is nearly identical to:

Shufflepuck Cafe
http://macintoshgarden.org/games/shufflepuck-cafe

The only apparent difference is the name. (I'm not just talking about the game file, but the name embedded in the game's about box, for instance.)

The author, version, menus and all of the interface is exactly the same. I guess it's possible there some differences in the internal physics, but that does not seem probable.

That's interesting ... if they ARE the same, maybe they could be merged. (There are enough differences to merit the preservation of both.)

Just a suggestion, on the subject of avoiding duplicates:

I have a few large archives of my old games and utilities to trawl through looking for new stuff to upload. But going through each title, searching the Macintosh Garden site (using the rather good "Search" bar you have) is an onerous task. I tried it a few weeks ago, after 4 hours I don't think I even got out of the "A"s on the first archive.

What would really help is a download of all the titles (games and apps) currently uploaded, perhaps CSV format, with as much other detail as you think appropriate, ie, publisher, year, size. This would let me pull it into a FileMaker / MySQL / Oracle database, along with a list of what I have in the archives, and easily highlight what is suitable for upload.
Needed one time only, I'd keep watch on the tracker page for new titles uploaded by others and chalk them off (but if you produced it regularly, or on the fly, all the better). I did this with the retromac hotline server, made it infinitely easier to submit stuff.

@bertyboy:

See http://macintoshgarden.org/apps_one_page for apps, and http://macintoshgarden.org/games_one_page for games. There are six pages of 200 games each, and I can't fit all 1200 on one page!

@toprak:

One is a CD image; the other is the folder with some extra content. Maybe someone could combine the two (put the extra content in a sit and add the sit to the cd image zip archive)?

Sometimes the find feature doesn't find it, I believe.
I deleted the newer one, thanks.

g3 throttle

( if they are slightly different somehow, i think it's still better to compress them in one folder under one page, since the app. is so tiny)

If the search function is not finding it, that means it hasn't been indexed yet. Indexing takes place every hour.

When uploading games, maybe we could implement a feature which check whether an entry of the same name already exist. Whether the uploader want to create an entry with the same title then.

Great idea IIGS User, but do you know how to code it in php? Because apparently drupal don't have that option.

Note: drupal is the content management platform used on this site. More info at http://drupal.org/

Please someone confirm whether above is a duplicate against

Full US version of Nisus Writer 4.1.6 has been available here for quite some time here in the combined Nisus Writer 4 page.

And recently duplicated here on this newer Nisus Writer 4.1.6 page.

Duplicates here: "Adobe Acrobat eBook Reader 2.2"
and here: "Adobe eBook Reader"

The top linked page should be removed (mediafire only DL) and the 2nd link above, preserved, as it is archived here at the Garden.

The following two pages should be merged to include the information on the first-listed page and the link given by SwedeBear in the comments to the second-listed page

http://macintoshgarden.org/games/shadow-wraith
http://macintoshgarden.org/games/shadow-wraith-cd

I uploaded an image of the CD to the first page (didn't notice the second one until later)
