Conflict Catcher (warning)

Hi all.

I recently reinstated an OS9 System Folder from my backup, but for reasons beyond my comprehension (doing this under OSX may have helped), ConflictExtension was renamed _ConflictExtension, which under OS9 loads LAST!

Not only did this crash the system BADLY just before the desktop, it would, without fail, corrupt the B-tree of the hard drive, necessitating a full Disk First Aid runthrough.

If you are having similar issues, check and see if you can rename a troublesome early-loading extension. I believe I used to rename with an option-key combination, but all the ones I try now are visible (this one was invisible). Simply renaming with a SPACE at the start solved all the issues. I was very paranoid that I had gone to all that trouble to install a BROKEN HDD !!!

FYI.

Version 9.04 (from memory)

I think the file was renamed on activation, as it was launching fine, but bringing up the activation/serial dialog on startup.

Thanks. I've never used this product, preferring to eliminate problem cp's/extns manually. I hate products that can corrupt a disk's B-Tree too.
I see there is a full install of Conflict Catcher 9.0.1 here at the MG tho (updated for Mac OS 9.2.2).

That is probably the version I am using Smile

I did once have the original installer floppy for 8.0, but that has been long lost Sad
