Classic Mac games for iOS (sans emulation)

Hello all, not quite sure if this is the right forum for this question but I'll give it a go anyway. I am trying to find classic Mac games for my iPod touch.

(I know you can get Mini vMac working on a jailbroken Touch, but I paid for an extended warranty which would be voided if I jailbreak it. After the warranty has run out, I'll be getting onto this straight away.)

So, I'm just looking for old games that have been ported to iOS. So far I've found Stunt Copter, Prince Of Persia, Crystal Quest, Glypha and a Lode Runner clone. Does anyone know of any other titles on iOS? I found quite a few articles from 2009 that said that Alice was ported to iOS by Steve Capps himself, but seems to have disappeared without a traced from the iStore. I would really love to track that one down. Any suggestions?

I think this is out of scope of Macintosh Garden (at least hosting such stuff).

I believe Electronic Arts may have intentions for a few of their old games, hopefully not only for iPad. SimCity would be a prime candidate.

I am in the same boat as the OP, looking for iOS games that are throwbacks to retro games from the Mac. StuntCopter is one of the best, and if you were ever a fan of Spectre/Spectre VR there is an iOS version - http://spectre3d.com/

Also, though this is PC not Mac, there was a SkiFree! game that cloned the original pretty well, but was pulled a few months ago as the real maker of the game is planning his own iOS version.

The waybackmachine sometimes comes up with things that seemed to be gone lost, but you certainly tried to trace Alice already?

i have an iPod too, and i´ve noticed that most of the games are really ports of the old games
it is pretty dissapointing that alot of the games for the ipod feel like the ATARI
(keep playing the same until it gets impossible)
Where is the creativity?

what i´m saying is that there are lots of Atari, apple // and Mac games ported to ipod with different names and nice graphics but basically the same, the only one i have not seen is a clone of GLIDER

but they are there...

In regards to getting the Alice app with the Waybackmachine, would this be possible given that it would have to be accessed in iTunes rather than as web browser? Is there anywhere where a file like this might be available? ie. File sharing sites or something?

@Euryale: Could you list some of the games you are referring to that I could track down?

Note: jailbroken iPods, iPhones, and iPads can be restored to factory un-jailbroken state using iTunes. When in the un-jailbroken state, the warranty is fully valid. There's no way for Apple to even tell that it was jailbroken.

Stunt Copter, with its missing features and relatively high price, seems like more of a ripoff than an homage.

SimTower was ported to iOS, but they called it Yoot Tower (which is the sequel to SimTower). Odd.

I can't believe no one mentioned Myst! This was ported to iOS by the original company and looks pretty good as far as I've seen. I never really played it at the time, so I'm excited to check it out.

I realise this post is a little older these days, but I just wanted to express my thanks for this list. I've found so many great Apps from it. My friend and I are really enjoying Yoot Tower, particularly. Other greats are 'Another World' (aka Out of this World) and 'Stunt Copter'. 'Spectre' and the original PoP are also fantastic.

Don't know if everyone already knows this, but Glider has finally come out for iOS and OSX - http://www.softdorothy.com/Glider.html. It's been ported by John Calhoun himself and is not a recreation of any of the original incarnations but rather a new game that is kind of a call-back to the first couple of version that preceded Glider PRO. Check it out, it's a perfect game to adapt to iOS.

Hey, also, Prince of Persia Classic seems to have disappeared from the app store... was there some sort of a copyright issue or something?

Glider OS X were planned to be published by Casady & Greene, but they went down,
so Calhoun published the game at his own site.

How come Pangea Soft's iOS releases haven't been mentioned? Like Cro-Mag Rally? Or is that not classic Mac?

Just noticed that Warlords is now available on ios! (http://desktop-control.com/ios/warlords/) I think it only just came out in the last couple of days. I'd love to see a port of Warlords II as well.

Also, had a go of Another World (saw it at a friend's house but never got to play it myself due to our family only having a Mac Plus) and I really enjoy it. Great port of a very interesting game.

Transylvania, the graphic looks similar to the Apple II version.

Speaking of Apple II, Mystery House moved also to the iPhone (price's too expensive compared to other titles, thought).

Very pleased about the Warlords news. That's such a great game. I was extremely disappointed to hear Prince of Persia Retro was pulled from the store. What a shame. That game is much better than the Classic incarnation, which is just a bit clunky.

Update: you can now get Lode Runner on iOS. A 30th anniversary release came out late last year. It's pretty good - the controls are a little inelegant due to the limitations of the iPhone, but it's a nice port of this essential classic Mac game. http://www.loderunnerclassic.com

There's also Marathon, Spin Doctor, Spaceward Ho! (also on Android), and Zone Warrior. I wrote a thing for Mac|Life last year highlighting ten Mac classics on iOS that includes these and some of the others already mentioned. SimStapler's available, too, although it's hard to call it a game - more of a prank.

I guess people reading this thread will be interested in the article, so here's the link: http://www.maclife.com/article/gallery/10_classic_mac_games_you_can_play...

Can we get a public iOS emulator for OS X?

Hey thanks for those mentions mossy, also I'll check out your article... Oh, just looking at it now, it's obvious that I've already read it!

I wanted to mention too that the Warlords iOS app has recently had a major update and now you can play multiplayer games with actual humans over Game Centre rather than just the bots supplied by the game. I thought that was pretty cool.
