Basilisk II corrupting applications?

Included in one of the "hard disk packages" on Basilisk was the original Prince of Persia (in color) from Brøderbund Software (I use the hard disk but haven't booted from 7.5.3 yet). I remember playing this a bit (from another Mac Garden version) on a real iMac, but in Basilisk, it crashed in the intro so I never got to get to the point where the Prince is impaled on floor spikes. The problem is I couldn't do any further testing because of an Error -39 bomb, and it's been like that ever since even with new launches of Basilisk. As Google is impossible with pre-Mac OS X help these days, I had to dig deep in old Mac PDFs to see that error -39 is a corrupted file. However, the date created/date modified is still 1992 (I'd be suspicious if the "date modified" changed to November 2018). It's possible something that PoP relies on got corrupted, but the only suspect would be the Preferences folder and there's no trace of it. What's going on?

Most likely the file system got corrupted; Disk First Aid should fix the problem.

Hmm...the Disk First Aid application loaded successfully and fixed the volume, but the application is still busted.

I wish there was a modern website (not forums) that described how the Mac OS worked, or better yet, a book especially concerning emulation.

Error -39 = eofErr - End of file; no additional data in the format

AppleCare Knowledge Base doc - Pre OS X error codes.

System Errors 7.x app here at the MG (handy app + PDF as "Manual").

Original PoP plays OK for me on Basilisk II, running SSW 7.1.1, 256 colors - Game I tried is the top download, Prince_Of_Persia.SIT (1.36 MB). No errors.

It crashed in the same place in the intro in SheepShaver, but it could be reopened and was able to run okay provided you skipped the intro.

EDIT: Deja Vu seems to be the latest victim to this problem.

Few weeks ago, I have uploaded a beta version of the game (6th DL on the page). It's for historical purpose & as it is a beta, it should be unstable & could crash. I have tested it myself with Basilisk & SheepShaver (under Mac OS X) & I've encountered same errors sometimes or it crashes. That happens when you launch the beta before the "normal" game version for example. For retrieving a normal use, you should open Basilisk again, then change the color resolution before launching the game. Then, quit this one, change (again) the resolution you want & play the game. This could help for Basilisk. In SheepShaver, no issues found (on my side). The beta version is not playing the intro & can play only in color because the B/W file is missing inside the folder...
