AOE 3: The War Chiefs Expansion Installation Failure

I have been attempting to install the War Chiefs Expansion of Age of Empires 3 (http://macintoshgarden.org/games/age-of-empires-iii) but after the installation begins and is almost finished it stops and I am prompted with the notification,

"Installation failed. The installer encountered an error that cause the installation to fail. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance."

Since Macsoft isn't around anymore and they are technically the manufacturers I'm kind of at a loss as what to do. I'm guessing that there's a corrupt file in the contents but have no idea where to look. Any suggestion on how to fix this issue?

I tried reinstall the Age of Empires 3 but sure the game is install in application before you put in age of empires 3 War chiefs expansion. after you put in Age of Empires 3 and expansion you can move the games out of application folder and put in both updates for the games. They will play out of application folder when you the move the games.

I completely removed all of the AOE files from the computer and then started from scratch. I re-downloaded all the files from the page. I was able to successfully install Age of Empires 3 and move it into the applications folder. I was then able to pair the installer application "The WarChiefs Installer (US)" with the Age of Empires 3 application but upon actually reaching the installation step it fails to install and I am still getting the error prompt in the summary instead of a completion notification.

I upload a manual install Age of Empires III - WarChiefs. Already updated. Just copy the game to application folder.

After I select the original Age of Empires application I am prompted with, "Installation Failed. Could not load DATAPX.BAR". I'm running my mac on the most up to date operating system (10.12.5) which might be the problem but I don't see how the expansion would have this much trouble running while the regular works fine.

In the crash report this is some of the information that might be the most helpful...

On Macsoft webpage It said this game might work in Mac OS X 10.7. Any system higher might not work.
Can your computer run lower systems ? If it can you can partition drive to run Mac OS X 10.5 or Mac OS X 10.6 or Mac OS X 10.7 or other drive with lower systems.

I'm pretty sure I could create a virtual machine using Parallels Desktop if I could get a hold of an older version of OS X

Hello there,

I just downloaded Asian Dynasties and the base Age of Empires games this morning and got them both working, any luck or news on the warchiefs front? I seem to be having the same issues as yourself.

I will have a look at this in the next day or so to remind myself of how I got warchiefs to install. It must have worked for me before as I always test install games before I upload them.

The WarChiefs installer works in Leopard but seems to be incompatible with Snow Leopard and above. One solution for those having problems is to do the install on a Mac running Leopard and then copy the applications (AOE3 + expansion) to your later syetem. I have found that this strategy works for running WarChiefs in Snow Leopard. However, that is not very convenient and may be not possible for some. So I have found a way to modify the installer so that it now works on Snow Leopard at least. I have tested that it also works on El Capitan. The modified installer is now uploaded to the AOE3 page (6th DL)
