Thanks for the uploads, Mike. I will look into it...

[Edit] Looks like there is files that could have been modified in ressource or data fork, but I'm not sure that's really the problem here...

I found an unmodified English copy of WP 2.1.2 in poor, near unusable shape, but I was able to restore it to original Disk Copy 4.2 images. It looks to be file equivalent to the Canadian French folder contents. With one exception, this copy installs from the mounted images without a problem, so maybe there is no copy protection, just a problem with the CF version.

I'll add my recovered copy to this page shortly. In the meantime I'll do some closer inspection of the two.

[Edit] I think I've exhausted all options I can think of to get the CF version to run properly. It works OK but it's still not perfect. I'll add the fresh US English copy & my working CF findings to the page. I'll also leave the broken CF install folders above, as someone else may want to look at it.

Thanks for looking deeper into this, Franky. It is a pity the installer's error message isn't clear about what it is expecting. Our only hope is that one day we will see a good copy turn up here.

Well, it's a no-go for me. All misspelling could be only a problem for us. But seems this is not the case for the installer. I'm not totally sure there is a copy protection. However, looks like the files are not the expected versions. Only the "CAN-Français" & the software itself are installed. All others does not match from size and/or versions. You can see it with custom (personnaliser) installs. There is versions 2.1 & 2.1.2 for different parts. That could be not a real problem, except for size. I suspect that the files have been put in folders from a previous installation. So, I'm afraid that only your method would work... Sad

Ah, the fake brother Wink

Still, it has me intrigued and it would be nice to find a working install set. So I hope that you will get further with it than me. I do have it working, opening, editing and saving files, but having to launch the application via the "CAN-Français" icon is not "Perfect". Wink

Don't bother with the pre-installed QXP 6, Franky. What we have here now is much better, with a clean upgrade path to 6.5.2 Passport. - The only one to get now is a retail copy of 6.0, but even this is no longer necessary.
I expect the fake brother will update his pages with our new findings shortly Tongue

YW. And thanks for trying to get this working. Just like a lot of things I've uploaded here, it comes from our beloved fake brother mirrored site. They are putting many softwares not fully fonctional (& the guy you dislike says we have stolen their files...). And theses are never corrected... What a mess this site! I've also localized a preinstalled version of QuarkXpress 6.0/6.1 over there, but have not DL it for the moment. I believe it's not a pre-release. If you're interested , I can look into.

For the French version here, I will try to get it working myself too. Smile

Thanks for the upload, Franky. I get the same errors, but don't think that this software is copy protected.

Rather, the extraction from floppy disks to folders was made to a non French system, and that has screwed up the filenames in several of the folders.

WordPerfect 2.1 file name errors

When it asks for Disk "WordPerfect2", it is wanting to install some resources but cannot because of the bad file-name. You can see it reflected also in what should be a "CAN-Français" icon, in the pic.

To be quite certain, I installed a French Canadian copy of Mac SSW 7.1 and then extracted the ".sit" under that OS, and the results were the same. Screwed up filenames names throughout.

I'm not confident enough with my level of French to make all of the spelling corrections without error. But I think that you would know how to recognize the incorrect spelling terms and correct these names throughout.

Also, and in no way affecting this install, is the hidden .DS_Store icon in the first Installation disk. It's not a problem, only noting that it shouldn't be there. All of the other folders in the .sit are clean.

[Edit] You may be right about the copy protection. I tried repairing the names (I still may have got them wrong) and it didn't make any difference. It's a pity they weren't bundled like the English copy, which does install.

It is possible to get this to work (kind of), by copying all of the content into a folder on an HD and copying the CODE resources from the Resources file in disk/folder "WordPerfect2" and pasting them into the WordPerfect application file (located in disk/folder "WordPerfect1") using ResEdit.

You need to have the file "CAN-Français" in the same folder as WordPerfect 2.1 and double-click that to launch WP.

Not ideal, but useable. I've added a couple of screenshots to the pics in the page.

Done. I presume you will have to use ResEdit for remove the copy protection. It will be another challenge as messages are in French. Smile They said that the name of the disk is correct, but that's not the good one. Or more simply, that's not the requested one. Good luck & let me know the results. Thanks. Wink

Yes, please do. It's a kind of thing I like to look into, with the hope to get working.

I have a French/Canadian copy of this one but I can't create perfect images from the folders. It comes in 7 folders, but it cannot be installed from them, it requires floppies or images. Can I upload them here for looking into & then creating know good copies ?

Requires serial activation - and it's not included in the above DL...

Anyone? Never mind. It's the same as for later versions of WordPerfect.
Any combination of 9 numbers, will do.
