Virtual PC (formerly Microsoft Virtual PC and Connectix Virtual PC) is a virtualization program for running versions of Microsoft Windows on a host system.
Virtual PC virtualizes a standard PC and its associated hardware. Supported Windows operating systems can run inside Virtual PC. Other operating systems like Linux may run, but are not officially supported.
Top DL (12.82 MB): A Carbonized (OS 9 & OS X) installer for Connectix Virtual PC 6.0, it can create hard drive containers, allowing one to install a (user supplied) Windows OS of choice. Missing from this install set are the VPC-6 "Additions" so there are some limitations in Mac - PC functionality - See Compatibility section below (for a work-around). Otherwise, works well. Requires Mac OS 9.1 or newer.
Registration Code: VPM6-1362-6084-1115-4618
2nd DL (13.69 MB): The Connectix Virtual PC 6.0.1 updater. It fixes an issue on G3 machines that caused Virtual PC to unexpectedly quit when a PC was restarted or launched in full screen mode, fixed a related issue which caused the configuration associated with a PC to become corrupted after restarting or launching in full screen mode on G3 machines made changes to allow Quicken TurboTax Deluxe to install and run properly within Virtual PC and minor corrections to the Japanese localization of Virtual PC.
3rd DL (13.65 MB): The Connectix Virtual PC 6.0.2 updater. Version 6.0.2 is intended for Airport Extreme card users who are experiencing problems with Virtual PC 6. This is the last Connectix-branded update.
4th DL (13.8 MB): Virtual PC transitions from Connectix to a Microsoft owned product and updates Connectix Virtual PC 6.x to Microsoft Virtual PC 6.1, requiring a Mac OS 9.2.2 or OS X 10.1.5 or newer running on native G3 or G4 hardware (no add-on G3/G4 upgrade cards). This is also the final version of Virtual PC to run on Classic Mac OS.
Registration Code: VPM6-4838-8814-8053-6653
Other Virtual PC versions: 1.0b6 and 1.0fc2, 2.0 and 2.1.3, 3.0 upgrade & 3.0.3, 4.0, 5.0 and 5.0.4 and 7.0.

[Note]: If the Connectix "Additions" files don't get installed on it's 1st set-up run, you can install them afterwards by manually opening the VPC-6 application package (Show Package Contents), then open the Contents:Resources folder of the app package. The file in here that you'll need is "VPCAdditions011123.iso". Make a copy of this, moving it out of the package and install the additions from your next virtual Windows session (go VPC-6 "Drives" menu, "Capture CD Image" sub-menu). Thanks to Fortuna Wave for the heads up.
Comments
@1tristan247: - Try reading through the description above, esp. the paragraphs regarding DL #1 and DL #4... or skim down in the page comments and find it in one of Fortuna's posts.
it asks for a serial number which I don't have and can't skip
Downloads #6 + #7,
either, I would prefer this as
Virtual_PC_6.1.2.img.sit file
Fantastic, Fortuna. That truly makes my day. Thank you very much for archiving them here too.
I've added some fresh screenshots. Cheers.
I have 6.0.1 and 6.0.2 updaters from my old HFV archive.
@Fortuna Wave: Yes thank you. I was able to complete the upgrade with this. I've updated the page info.
I'll have some screenshots ready, shortly.
I'm hoping also to see the Connectix updates 6.0.1 & 6.0.2 to be located and added to this page too. They aren't required for the update to 6.1, but they're the final VPC software released by Connectix before it went to Microsoft so I'd like to see them preserved. I've looked on-line without luck, they're not available from the wayback machine, either.
Put some screenshots please?
@Miketomtom: Try this serial VPM6-4838-8814-8053-6653
One "gotcha" to be aware of: If upgrading from the Connectix VPC-6.0 to Microsoft VPC-6.1 and you find that the serial that worked for VPC-6.0 does not work for VPC-6.1 (as it doesn't work for me). This wrecks your original VPC-6.0 install. You'll need to start over again, re-install and run version 6.0 only.
Now that is obscure. Thanks, I would not have found it otherwise. (I'm adding that info to the above).
Tried the 6.1 updater, it converts the 6.0 install to a Microsoft product. The serial found lower down in the comments on this page worked for the Connectix 6.0 install, but don't appear to work with the Microsoft 6.1 upgrade (which insists on having one to complete the upgrade).
The VPC 6.0 Additions were located in Contents\Resources folder, file name is "VPCAdditions011123.iso".
The top DL "virtual_pc_6.0.smi_.bin" (12.82 MB), installs on either Mac OS 9 or PPC Mac OS X. It lacks the extra additions that would've been available from a full image, such as sharing a folder between Mac & PC, but otherwise works well on both 9 & X. I haven't looked at the updater file (2nd DL) as yet.
@Bolkonskij:
Only VPC7 will work with a G5.
Would you rather recommend 5, 6 or 7 for emulating a Windows XP on a Power Mac G5?
yeah, the odd-numbered versions were the big steps up. v3 and v4 were so similar, and v4 was so short lived, I already had v3 retail with Win98, read a review of v4 in MacUser, went out to buy it and it had been upgraded to v5 by the time I got to the shop.
I've used VirtualPC occasionally for years, both version 5 and 6, on my G4-upgraded PM 8500. They work [fine] but i haven't decided which is better. There is very little difference between v5 and v6 in my experience. I think i'm back to v5, even on my dual-G4 QuickSilver.
Not sure if I may post the serial number, but I found one:
Name: apple
Serial number: VPM6-1362-6084-1115-4618
some little items is in french. and windows 98 image is french too.
BTW, what's with the French?
What is the serial number?
If I remember correctly, only original PowerPC based Macintoshes are supported, but no CPU Upgrade Cards.
Althought, it should work with CPU Upgrade Cards, too. It's just a 'Call Support' problem.
