Compatibility

The install sets are localized for: English, French, German and Japanese languages.

Reported working OK in Mac OS X "El Capitan".

Only the CD version (DL #2) has the additional "Discus RE" labeling software and Art image database, plus user guides in PDF form. The update versions have the user guide as internal HTML help format only.

May have issues mounting disc images as virtual CD/DVD's in Snow Leopard - disk image mounting appears broken for me, others may fare differently.

I don't see any Java

I don't see any "7" other than in the name of the .app wrapper. But I can easily overlook things.

Java I see is in "Toast Titanium7 G3 Patch.app/Contents/Resources/English.lproj/MainMenu.nib" as "_stdMetal 2_EOArchive.java", "classes.nib" & "JavaCompiling.plist"

I'll take a closer look at the checksums tho'.

Best for one to begin a new "G3" crack for Toast v7.1.3 but this patch already here is interesting. Wouldn't surprise me if this patch was "leaked" by someone on the official Toast 7 dev team.

Patch uses the icon unique to v7 and has 7 in its name, probably meaning the first release of 7 : prior to August 21 2005. I don't see any Java; it's a straightforward MacOSX applet created using "iPatch". I think it first computes md5 of Contents/MacOS/Toast and rejects all but a single release/specific md5 chksum.

G4 vs G3 difference(s) are at a lower level than language localization, i.e. the G3-compatibility patch should operate universally for all supported languages in Toast. The particular English localization seen inside the patch applet actually belongs to the patch applet itself, meaning the patch-apply applet is what's found only in English.

That G3-patch doesn't work with v7.0.2 either.

Thanks for looking at it, SkyCapt. It's not looking very promising so far, not working for anything that's on this page. And I gotta say v7.0.2 isn't that far removed from v7.0 in this range, either.

Looking inside the .app bundle, I see a bunch of java code and reference to the patch team but no reference to the actual version of Toast it's going to patch. Also the patch is targeting only the English portion of a Toast install, ignoring any included localized content, as far as I can tell.

That G3-patch doesn't work with v7.0.2 either. Patch is August 2005 whereas v7.0.2 is December 2005. Therefore patch could only be for v7.0.0 or v7.0.1 ?

Thanks, mrdav. It looks very good. It additionally contains the "Discus RE" software (+ 200MB image database for Discus RE) and PDF documentation omitted from the update additions. I'll update the page info. Thanks again.

Mike, I have now uploaded the image of my original install CD for v. 7.1. The MD5 is 9ebbea81cab07c0ee4a57a113e10faef

I am leaving any reordering and description to you as you are managing the page.

I have an original install CD for v7.1

The original v7.1 CD would be a good addition, mrdav, being a milestone release - 1st Toast version with native Intel Mac support, 1st to have some Blue-ray support with it's RoxioBluRaySupport.kext (version 1.0.0).

The only app I know of not included with these update releases, is the "Discus RE" labeling software. Otherwise the updates are complete. But perhaps it has better on board documentation and includes some Roxio demo apps etc ? Anyway, original release CD's are always preferable, if you ever want to add it to the collection.

For what it is worth, I have an original install CD for v7.1

Technically the two downloads that are here 7.1.2 and 7.1.3 are both "updates", even though the full Toast 7 app is supplied, these don't have docs nor system requirements nor certain supporting apps. There should be a v7.0.1 disc of Toast 7 that is a full install

@SkyCapt: All are "updates" but they are full installs as well. We would need to (and I would like to) get our hands on an original version release CD to compare. With version 7's update, they decided to make all user documentation as online HTML Help. You can can find this for the various languages Toast 7 supports, located inside the .app and I assume from the Help menu when it's running. The online Help documentation seems to be as comprehensive as the later version's PDF user documentation, but IMO, not as convenient. Anyway, you can find details like system requirements etc, in there (which I've just done, so I can update the page info above).
More detailed System Requirements here (Web Archive)

It's looking likely that the G3 patch cannot update the current versions in this page as they are universal apps (PPC/Intel) and the original Toast 7 Titanium was PPC only.
If that G3 patch can't be fixed or updated, I will add a PPC only vers. 7.0.2 to the page, as it may fare better.
- I'll add it to the page shortly, anyway.

snap, I'd like fries with that... But G3 patch won't let 7.1.2-7.1.3 be applied. The patch is 2005, 7.1.2 app is 2006 and 7.1.3 app is 2007. Patch will need to be adjusted for later version(s), and the 2005 Toast 7 is needed here to see how the patch behaves.

Success!, after having tried everything.
I'm reading and writing BluRay in Tiger now. Reading (in Finder/Disk Utility/etc) is performed using this:
http://macintoshgarden.org/apps/roxio-bluray-support-tiger
Writing is performed using Toast v7.1.3 here on this page. I wrote a "bd-r dual layer" 50GB disc! This interface is much much nicer than Leopard OSX, and Toast 7.1.3 isnt 'bloatware' like Toast 8+ is. Toast 8+ makes my computer slow down just having it installed, unopened. Toast 7.1.3 keeps my computer going fast.

MTT: I used the code that has 'HUH' in the middle of it, for 7.1.3 alright. And Toast 7 has a system requirement of G4-or-better processor, maybe emphasize this bit?

Technically the two downloads that are here 7.1.2 and 7.1.3 are both "updates", even though the full Toast 7 app is supplied, these don't have docs nor system requirements nor certain supporting apps. There should be a v7.0.1 disc of Toast 7 that is a full install and then the update is applied to that (tho I'm just interested in the 7.1.3 Toast app for now). Amazing it seems BluRay authoring is not a declared feature of Toast until the next version 8. Toast 7.1.3 does not install its BluRaySupport kext, even tho it comes with a primitive one it was only a work-in-progress. BluRay access has been coded into the Toast 7.1.3 app/no kext needed. That's why you should go to the above BluRay Support page and install the better version of the kext, to get amazing BD read ability in Tiger's Finder.

Toast 7.1.3 doesn't launch with the G4/Tiger Altivec-disabled. Would luv it if someone will crack off this G4/Altivec pre-launch check!

Toast 5 & Blue-ray? I doubt it. Toast 6 might be a safer bet. Tho', one can only but try Wink

I wonder if Toast 5 will work good (in Tiger) in conjunction with the bluray supporting kext.

Hi mrdav. Yes, it's an issue with virtual CD/DVD's for me.

In Snow Leopard, I have a need for a mounted virtual DVD, where an app that is expecting actual media can be "tricked" into thinking the mounted image is a hardware copy in a CD/DVD drive. This is what is not working for me in this version. I resolved it by updating to a newer version of Toast, but I was striking this same issue with versions up to and including Toast 9.

If you are getting "no error message...it just does nothing." run the Console utility immediately after it occurs. It will likely have the reason why, logged and visible. It wouldn't surprise me at all if it will be the same Toast "TDIXController.kext" failure to load as I am getting.

Toast 7 Titanium OTOH does every other task it's designed for just fine in SL - tho' for me, not this particular task.

MIke, I misunderstood your comment about mounting. I have re-tested Toast 7 mounting of a .iso image in Snow Leopard and it is OK for me. However, I recall that there are occasions when Toast 7 will not mount such an image, but no error message...it just does nothing. It happens a lot in El Capitan (maybe always?). I do not know what causes this. However, for me it is not a problem as I always mount the iso using DiskImageMounter if I just want the Mac part mounted. If it is a hybrid image and I want both Mac and PC parts I go to Toast 5 on Mac OS X 10.4

Good to know this version still works OK in El Capitan, mrdav.

I have a confession. My issues with Toast not mounting CD/DVD .iso's as virtual CD's in Snow Leopard, were with Toast versions 6, 8 and 9. I had only assumed it would be the same for vers. 7 and I hadn't tested it... I had better take a closer look at it...

[Edit] Gargh - it works fine (in Leopard at least) even Toast's contextual extension "Mount It" is working for me... once I confirm on a Snow Leopard install I may need to re-visit vers. 8 & 9 too :tired:

[Edit 2] No, mounting .toast, .iso, etc as a virtual CD/DVD in Snow Leopard is broken for me.

Well, at least it's working in Leopard for me... I'll amend my comments above in the description.

It'll be good to know if anyone else has this issue, or not.

MTT, in relation to your comments in Compatibility about the OS range, I have been using Toast 7 in El Capitan for quite some time now without a problem.

EDIT: BTW, both dmg images mount OK for me in Leopard and Snow Leopard. Maybe we will get some idea of the extent of the problem if others report the circumstances of any negative experiences.
