Emulation
Guides on emulating older applications

An emulator of the Atari 2600 VCS (Video Console System) hardware first introduced in 1977, it was the most popular home video game system of the early 1980's. Now you can enjoy all of your favorite Atari 2600 games on your Macintosh, thanks to Stella!

Requires game cartridge ROMs be obtained separately, those kept on your system in a folder, and Stella become made aware of that folder thru selecting options.

Download 1 - version 1.2 (Oct 2002) the highest for classic Mac OS.

SkyCapt last screenshot from Stella 3.9.3 but you click on application and open it shows as version 3.9.3. It fault of developer putting wrong number on application.

Stella was Atari's internal project name for initial development, like Apple had "code" names for projects. Tho I did own one of these and I never heard the name until online in the 2000's. I recall "2600" was a code name because I think that number wasn't printed on the hw or literature initially? It had always been "the VCS".

The makers of this program are invoking a tangental nostalgia by naming their program Stella.

I'll try out naming this page "Stella the emulator".
I transfer four screenshots by scott Praed I did leave out his 5th picture because the version number is shown wrong. All v3.x declare v3.0 in File Info so the real version number is in the About box when the app is being run. There was v3.9.3 saying v3.0 and now we really have 3.0 as a dL the picture became off.

I see there are (currently) MG pages for Stella vers. 1.2 (includes same pics as above) and Stella vers.3.9.3.

I guess they will be removed soon, in favor of this current page and bringing over the screenshots from the 3.9.3 page.

I'm not sure of the choice of title above (Stella emulator). Shouldn't it be "Stella: Atari 2600 Emulator" or similar? Current title suggests something is emulating a "Stella".
