Scavenger Mac is a third-party recovery utility for use with the Macintosh Hard Disk 20 (the HD-20), Apple's first external hard drive.

According to Vintage Mac World, Scavenger Mac was, along with HD Diag, written explicitly for use with the HD-20, which shouldn't be serviced by software intended for SCSI hard drives, as the HD-20 utilizes the Macintosh floppy port. (A proper SCSI port would not be added to the Macintosh line until the Macintosh Plus).

And according to Phil Beesley (via Herb Johnson's Retrotechnology page on the HD-20), both Scavenger Mac and HD Diag were used in-house by Apple in the repair and recovery of HD-20 units, alongside (presumably) the HD 20 Test utility.

Architecture: 68k

While Scavenger Mac does seem to launch fine in emulation, it should probably only be used with actual hardware. ResEdit states that the application file is damaged, but it seems otherwise able to repair it.

Still useful ? Absolutely yes! Collections are good but they do need to be mined for the best nuggets.

Oh, fabulous! Still useful to have this one on its own though, I think?
